Frequently Asked Questions
Taurus .44 Magnum for sale
Is the Taurus 44 Mag a good gun?
Taurus 44 Mag revolvers are reliable options for hunting and bear protection. They cost less than Smith & Wesson equivalents but sacrifice some accuracy. Priced around $736 with 21 variants available, they offer solid performance and manageable recoil for field use.
Does a 44 Magnum kick hard?
.44 Magnum produces roughly 18.5 foot-pounds of recoil with factory loads—noticeably harder than .357 Magnum but manageable for most shooters. Longer barrels and rubber grips reduce felt recoil. Sensitivity varies by individual, but most people find it controllable with practice.
Is 44 Magnum overkill for self-defense?
.44 Magnum delivers excessive energy for typical self-defense—roughly twice what experts recommend. Heavy recoil slows follow-up shots, and overpenetration risks bystander harm. .357 Magnum or 9mm are better suited. With proper training and defensive loads, .44 Magnum functions adequately, but capacity and control suffer.
What is 44 mag good for?
.44 Magnum is well suited for hunting deer, hogs, and black bear, and serves as a capable bear defense sidearm in the backcountry. It's also popular for target shooting and handgun silhouette competition. For home defense it works but heavy recoil slows follow-up shots compared to smaller calibers.
How much does a Taurus raging hunter cost?
Taurus Raging Hunter revolvers typically cost around $808 new or $642 used, with prices such as $752 and $820 seen at current retailers. Twenty-one variants are available across forty-one retailers.
What is the difference between the Taurus Raging Bull and the Raging Hunter?
The Raging Hunter is a 2019 redesign of the Raging Bull. Key differences include the Hunter's aluminum barrel shroud (lighter than Bull's steel), an integrated muzzle brake, and a cushioned grip. Both share the same frame and fire magnum rounds, but the Hunter reflects updated engineering priorities.
What are common issues with a Taurus Tracker 44?
User reports mention cylinder jamming, hammer travel issues, and occasional breakdowns within the first few hundred rounds. Limited 5-round capacity requires frequent reloading. Recoil is substantial. Quality control appears inconsistent across units. Many owners report reliability after initial problems resolve, but early inspection is advisable.
