Benelli model names explained
- Inertia Driven
- Benelli’s recoil-operated system (developed in 1967): an inertia spring between bolt body and rotating bolt head cycles the gun with no gas system.
- A.R.G.O.
- Auto-Regulating Gas-Operated: dual short-stroke pistons used in the M4 shotgun and the R1 rifle.
- R.P.O.
- Rear Piston Operated: gas is taken near the chamber and the recoil spring sits in the stock (M2-G1, 2026).
- A.I.
- Advanced Impact (2024): new bore contours plus A.I. Crio chokes for higher shot velocity and energy.
- BE.S.T.
- Benelli Surface Treatment, a corrosion-resistant finish; treated parts carry a 25-year rust warranty.
- Crio
- Cryogenically treated barrels and chokes.
- ComforTech / Progressive Comfort
- Recoil-reducing stock systems: ComforTech uses chevrons in a split stock, Progressive Comfort uses interlocking recoil-absorbing leaves.
- SBE 3
- Super Black Eagle, third generation (2017).
- M1014
- US military designation of the M4 Super 90 (Joint Service Combat Shotgun).
- Performance Shop
- Benelli USA’s factory-upgraded competition and field versions, e.g. the 828U Upland Performance Shop.
