Kimber Models – What Makes Its Pistols So Popular?

Established in 1979 and headquartered in Alabama, Kimber Manufacturing is one of the newest firearm manufacturing companies in the USA. Despite its young age, Kimber has actually provided firearms to military, police, and other law enforcement workers in the past. Overall, Kimber is mainly focused on small firearms. While it may not have an impressive range of firearms, it managed to gain some reputation due to their impressive accuracy. These days, the company is in a massive process of expansion.

Pistols

Like other small brands, Kimber models come with all kinds of customization features and options.

  • Custom is one of the Kimber 1911 models with a semi-automatic profile. The pistol has been in production since 1997 and has been used by forces like the LAPD SWAT or USMC Force Recon. It’s one of the Kimber 9mm models that can also take .45 ACP cartridges.
  • Micro is the lightest pistol developed by Kimber. It was introduced in 2014 and advertised as a pocket pistol. While often marketed independently, Kimber Micro 9 models are often considered a variant of the original Micro.
  • Aegis follows the same M1911 style. It works with both .45 ACP and 9mm Luger cartridges. Variants include Custom Aegis II, Pro Aegis II, and Ultra Aegis II. Main differences between variants are related to the size.

Super Jägare 10mm 1911 is also worth some attention and stands out among Kimber 10mm models because each unit is made by a single gunsmith with the ultimate precision in mind.

Revolvers

Kimber hasn’t focused much on revolvers. At the moment, it has two different models in its portfolio.

  • K6S is chambered for the .357 Mag cartridge. It can be found in double action, as well as single and double action.
  • K6xs is an extra small alternative with a lightweight profile. In terms of features, it’s similar to K6S. It’s chambered for the .38 SPL cartridge.

Rifles

Kimber has designed quite a few rifles overtime, yet none of them have managed to beat the popularity of its pistols.

  • 8400 has a bunch of different variants and can be found in more calibers, including .270 Winchester, .338 Winchester Magnum, or .30-06 Springfield, among others. Based on the caliber, different variants have different uses.
  • 84L carries the pure Kimber specifications. It’s mainly found chambered for .30-06 Springfield and .270 Winchester calibers. Like other rifles from Kimber, it has a series of different variants.
  • 84M is often advertised individually, yet it’s sometimes considered a variant of 84L. The two rifles share quite a few features as well.
  • Hunter Pro is similar and is also considered to be part of the 84M family.

When it comes to rifles, Kimber has mainly gone for hunting and tactical units. Many of them rely on a Mauser type design for the feed action. While not many, these rifles have gained some reputation for their accuracy, not to mention the high quality standards. Bottom line, Kimber has a limited production line, and while it did produce firearms in different segments, it looks like its M1911 style pistol production is the main reason for its popularity.
