Frequently Asked Questions
Springfield 1911 Black Stainless for sale
Is the Springfield 1911 9mm a good gun?
Springfield makes several 9mm 1911 options. The Garrison is a solid mid-range choice with Novak sights and an extended beavertail at reasonable pricing. 9mm 1911s generally run reliably with quality ammunition, though they can be more feed-ramp sensitive than .45 ACP versions.
What are the common problems with the Springfield 1911?
Springfield 1911s occasionally have quality control inconsistencies and feeding issues, particularly with hollow points. New guns benefit from thorough cleaning, proper lubrication, and a break-in period of 500–600 rounds. Tight slides and magazine springs typically improve with use.
Is a 1911 too big for concealed carry?
Full-size 1911s are challenging to conceal due to their length and grip size, which tend to print visibly. Shorter barrels help, but you'll likely need a canted holster and careful clothing choices. Springfield's EMP (Enhanced Micro Pistol) is a compact 1911-style pistol designed specifically for concealed carry if that's your priority.
Where is the serial number on a Springfield Armory 1911?
On Springfield 1911 pistols, the serial number is stamped on the right side of the frame. Prefixes like "N" and "NM" indicate final assembly was completed in the US, as opposed to Brazil. Check our marketplace listings for more details on specific models and their serial number ranges.
Are springfield 1911s series 70 or 80?
Springfield 1911s are widely classified as Series 70. While Series 70 and 80 are technically Colt designations, Springfield pistols lack a firing pin block safety, so they fall into the Series 70 category. All Springfield 1911s are commonly referred to as Series 70 guns.
