Frequently Asked Questions
Springfield 1911 .45 ACP for sale
How much is a 1911 pistol from Springfield?
Springfield Armory 1911 pistols vary widely by model and configuration. Popular models include the Mil-Spec, Garrison, Operator, and TRP. Prices can reach at least $1,709.99 for models like the TRP 45ACP, with other configurations available at lower price points across multiple retailers.
Are springfield 1911s any good?
Springfield Armory 1911s are generally well-regarded. Entry-level models like the Mil-Spec offer reliable performance at reasonable prices, while higher-end models like the TRP compete with custom shops. Quality control is consistent, making them a solid choice across budget ranges.
What are the common problems with the Springfield 1911?
Springfield 1911s generally perform well, but reported issues include feeding failures with certain ammunition or magazines, stiff slides requiring break-in, and tight magazine springs. Most problems resolve after proper cleaning, lubrication, and 500–600 rounds of break-in shooting.
What mags fit in a Springfield 1911?
Magazine compatibility depends on caliber. .45 ACP Springfield 1911s accept standard 7 or 8-round .45 ACP magazines from Springfield, Wilson Combat, and other manufacturers. The 9mm models require 9mm magazines. Most aftermarket .45 ACP mags work, though fit varies—test before buying multiple.
Are all 1911-45 mags the same?
No. While .45 ACP 1911 magazines often interchange within the same frame size, they are not universal. Full-size and compact frames require different magazines, and some non-standard 1911s need proprietary magazines from their manufacturer. Quality and reliability also vary by brand. Always test new magazines in your specific pistol before trusting them.
What are the specifications of the 1911 45 pistol?
The standard 1911 in .45 ACP has a 5-inch barrel, 8.6-inch overall length, 39 oz unloaded weight, 7+1 round capacity, and single-action trigger. It fires .45 ACP ammunition. Specifications vary by manufacturer and model.
Are springfield 1911s better than kimber?
Neither is objectively better. Springfield generally offers more value at lower prices with comparable reliability. Kimber emphasizes fit and finish but costs more. The right choice depends on your budget and priorities. If possible, test fire both before deciding.
What is the lifespan of a Springfield 1911?
A well-maintained Springfield 1911 can exceed 100,000 rounds before needing a rebuild. Barrels typically last 50,000+ rounds before accuracy declines noticeably. Springs and extractors require periodic replacement. Frames and slides can withstand multiple rebuild cycles, making the pistol potentially last a lifetime with proper care.
Which Springfield Armory 1911 is the best?
"Best" depends on your needs. The Mil-Spec suits budget buyers, the Garrison offers solid value, the Operator provides tactical versatility, the Emissary bridges defensive and custom features, and the TRP targets serious tactical use. Prices range from roughly $623–$1,541. Handle several models before deciding.
Is the Springfield Armory 1911 garrison a good gun?
The Garrison is a reliable, accurate .45 ACP with solid build quality at around $861. It handles well, looks good, and functions dependably for defense. If you want a classic 1911 without paying premium prices, it's a strong choice, though modern pistols offer higher capacity.
What are the common problems with the Springfield garrison?
Most Garrison owners report reliable performance. Isolated issues include occasional jamming (often resolved with quality magazines or cleaning), minor extractor finishing, and loose tolerances on some examples. Springfield's warranty covers defects. Field-stripping and proper maintenance typically resolve early problems. Overall, reported issues are uncommon relative to the user base.
Does Springfield make a compact 1911?
Yes. Springfield offers compact 1911s, including the EMP (Enhanced Micro Pistol) built specifically for 9mm, the Range Officer Compact in 9mm, and the 1911 DS Prodigy compact. They have also produced the Micro-Compact in .45 ACP.
How much is the Springfield Armory 1911 TRP?
Springfield's 1911 TRP typically costs around $1,929 new, with used examples available around $999.99. Most variants on our marketplace range from $623 to $1,541 depending on retailer, condition, and configuration.
Is the Springfield TRP discontinued?
No, the Springfield TRP is not discontinued. Springfield relaunched an expanded TRP family in 2024 with six configurations, including new 9mm options and Agency Optic System models. Median pricing is around $861.
Is the Springfield TRP a good gun?
The Springfield TRP consistently earns praise for accuracy, reliability, and fit. It's widely considered one of the best factory 1911s available, with a proven track record. At its price point, some competitors offer comparable quality, so it depends on your specific needs and budget.
