Frequently Asked Questions
Springfield 1911 9mm for sale
Is the Springfield 1911 9mm a good gun?
Springfield's 1911 9mm models are well-regarded for reliability and accuracy. They perform well for home defense and duty use when fed quality ammunition and maintained properly. Most owners find them dependable, though satisfaction depends on intended use and personal preference.
What is the best Springfield 1911 9mm?
Springfield's best 9mm 1911 depends on your needs. The Garrison offers reliable performance at a moderate price. The Ronin EMP is compact and carry-friendly. The DS Prodigy excels in competition with its double-stack magazine. Consider your budget and intended use before deciding.
What magazines are compatible with Springfield 1911?
Springfield 1911 pistols accept standard 1911 magazines in their respective calibers. Compatible brands include Wilson Combat, Chip McCormick, and Springfield's own magazines. Capacity is typically 8 rounds in .45 ACP and 9 rounds in 9mm. Note that some Springfield 9mm models like the EMP use proprietary magazines. Test any new magazine before trusting it.
How many 1911 magazines should I have?
Most 1911 owners keep at least three magazines per gun—one in the pistol and two spares. For range use, four to six is practical. Extras allow reload practice, rotation, and backup if one fails. Your actual number depends on how often you shoot and whether you carry.
Will dry firing a 1911 damage it?
Dry firing a 1911 is generally safe and does not damage the firing pin or internal components. The real concern is dropping the slide on an empty chamber, which can cause damage. Snap caps are recommended by some, but dry fire practice itself is considered safe. Always verify the chamber is empty first.
Is a 9mm 1911 good for concealed carry?
A 9mm 1911 works for concealed carry but has tradeoffs: it's heavier and bulkier than modern compact pistols, with limited magazine capacity. It suits shooters who prioritize the platform's reliability and accuracy and are willing to manage its size and weight.
Does Springfield make a double stack 1911?
Yes. Springfield Armory makes the Prodigy, a double-stack 1911 chambered in 9mm. It holds 17+1 or 20+1 rounds, features a forged steel frame, optics-ready slide, ambidextrous safety, and Picatinny rail.
How much is a Springfield Ronin worth?
Springfield Ronin pistols typically cost around $800 new, with most listings falling between $785–$820 depending on caliber and configuration. Used examples average roughly $630–$640. Prices vary by retailer and inventory levels.
