Frequently Asked Questions
Springfield 1911 EMP for sale
How much is a Springfield EMP worth?
Springfield EMP 9mm compact pistols typically cost around $830 new based on current marketplace listings. Used examples average near $730. Prices generally range $500–$900 depending on condition and specific variant. Springfield Armory continues producing this concealed-carry model.
What is a Springfield 1911 EMP?
Springfield Armory's Enhanced Micro Pistol is a compact 9mm semi-auto designed for concealed carry. Unlike standard 1911s adapted to smaller calibers, it was engineered from the ground up for 9mm, featuring a shortened frame, reduced grip radius, and forged construction in a concealable size.
What does Springfield EMP stand for?
EMP stands for Enhanced Micro Pistol. Springfield Armory's compact 9mm semi-automatic was purpose-built around the 9mm cartridge rather than adapted from a larger caliber, featuring a shortened frame and reduced grip radius optimized for concealed carry.
What ammo feeds best into a Springfield 1911 EMP?
The EMP is chambered in 9mm (or .40 S&W). Federal HST 124gr +P and Speer Gold Dot 124gr +P feed reliably for carry. Blazer Brass and Magtech work well for practice. Always test your carry load through at least 200 rounds before trusting it for self-defense.
Is the Springfield EMP reliable?
Yes. The EMP cycles reliably across multiple ammunition types. Reviewers have fired over 250 rounds through test samples without malfunctions. Like any short-slide pistol, it requires proper maintenance and quality ammunition, but it has a strong reliability record for concealed carry use.
Where is Springfield EMP made?
Springfield Armory sources EMP forgings and components from Brazil, then completes final machining and assembly in Geneseo, Illinois. This mixed-origin manufacturing is common across Springfield's 1911 lineup, including the compact EMP model.
How many rounds does a Springfield EMP hold?
The original EMP 9mm holds nine rounds in the magazine. The four-inch model holds ten rounds, plus one in the chamber for eleven total. Capacity varies by caliber and model, so confirm your specific variant's specs.
