Frequently Asked Questions
Kimber 1911 45 for sale
Is the Kimber 1911-45 a good gun?
Kimber 1911s earn mixed reviews. Many owners praise their accuracy and build quality, but inconsistent quality control is a recurring complaint. Some pistols perform flawlessly while others have reliability issues. Inspecting one before purchase is advisable. They typically retail around $1,200 depending on the variant.
Do Kimber 1911 jam a lot?
Kimber 1911s have tight tolerances that can cause feeding issues during the first 500–600 round break-in period. After break-in, most run reliably with proper lubrication and quality ammunition. Quality control varies between individual units, so experiences differ among owners.
Is it okay to dry fire a Kimber 1911?
Kimber's FAQ states it's safe to dry-fire their centerfire pistols. Modern firing pins handle the contact well. If concerned about wear, snap caps offer extra protection, though most shooters skip them without problems.
How much is a Kimber .45 pistol?
Kimber .45 pistols typically cost between $686 and $1,705, with most models averaging around $1,271. Price varies by model and condition. Options range from compact carry pistols to target-oriented builds across multiple retailers.
What ammo is best for a Kimber 45?
Kimber .45 ACPs perform well with Federal HST, Speer Gold Dot, or Hornady Critical Defense hollow points in 230-grain for self-defense. During break-in, use full metal jacket rounds. Since individual pistols vary, test several loads to confirm reliable feeding and accuracy in your specific gun.
What is the best Kimber handgun?
"Best" depends on your needs. Kimber's lineup includes full-size 1911s in 9mm and .45 ACP and compact carry options. The KDS9C suits those wanting 9mm capacity, the Custom II delivers classic .45 power, and Micro models work well for concealed carry. Test-fire before deciding.
What mags will fit a Kimber 1911?
Kimber 1911 magazines depend on caliber and frame size. .45 ACP models use standard 1911 .45 magazines, while 9mm Kimbers need 9mm-specific mags. Factory Kimber magazines work in other 1911s of matching caliber and frame size. Wilson Combat and other quality aftermarket brands also fit reliably.
Does Kimber make a threaded barrel?
Yes, Kimber offers threaded barrel options on several models. The Pro TLE II TFS is the specific variant featuring a threaded barrel designed for suppressor use. Kimber also sells match-grade threaded barrels for .45 ACP and 9mm Micro models as gunsmith-installed replacement parts.
