Frequently Asked Questions
Kimber Ultra Carry II 45 for sale
Is the Kimber Ultra Carry II any good?
The Kimber Ultra Carry II is well-regarded for its build quality, tight tolerances, and reliable performance. It handles well for concealed carry in .45 ACP. Priced around $861, it's a solid choice, though some users note it benefits from a break-in period.
What is the price of the Kimber Ultra Carry II?
Kimber Ultra Carry II pistols typically cost around $800, with prices ranging from approximately $780 to $1,220 depending on caliber and retailer. Special edition models can run significantly higher. Our marketplace currently lists them between $736 and $995.
What are the common problems with the Kimber Ultra Carry II?
Some owners report failure-to-feed issues, particularly during initial use. Extraction problems and rounds going into half-battery have been documented. Kimber tech support advises using 124gr or heavier bullets to address feeding issues, and hollow point ammunition feeding is a known concern. Tight manufacturing tolerances contribute to these early reliability issues.
What magazine does a Kimber Ultra 2 use?
Kimber Ultra Carry II pistols use single-stack compact-frame magazines. In .45 ACP, they take 7-round magazines; 9mm versions use 8-round magazines. Factory Kimber magazines are recommended, though Wilson Combat, Chip McCormick, and Tripp Research alternatives are commonly reported to work well.
What ammo is best for Kimber 45 ACP?
For a Kimber .45 ACP, Federal HST, Speer Gold Dot, and Hornady Critical Defense are reliable defensive choices. Both 230-grain and 185-grain hollow points are popular and well-regarded options. Test several brands for feeding reliability, as individual pistols vary.
What is the difference between Kimber Pro Carry 2 and Ultra Carry 2?
The Pro Carry 2 has a 4-inch barrel on a full-size aluminum frame, while the Ultra Carry 2 has a 3-inch barrel on a shorter aluminum frame. The Pro offers better accuracy and control; the Ultra prioritizes concealment. Both are 1911-pattern pistols chambered primarily in .45 ACP, with 9mm options available.
What is the warranty on a Kimber Ultra Carry II?
Kimber backs the Ultra Carry II with a Limited Lifetime Warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. This warranty applies to new and loyal product owners. Coverage details and claim procedures are available directly from Kimber's customer service.
Is it okay to dry fire a Kimber 1911?
Yes, Kimber states dry firing their centerfire 1911s is safe. Modern firing pins handle the impact without damage. Snap caps are optional but can reduce long-term wear. Always verify the chamber is empty and point in a safe direction before dry firing.
