Frequently Asked Questions
Taurus TX22 for sale
Is the Taurus TX22 any good?
Reviewers praise the TX22 for reliability, full-size .22 capacity, and accurate shooting. It handles most ammo without issues and earns solid marks for ergonomics and build quality. At around $298, it's competitively priced. Some dislike the prominent Taurus branding. It's a capable rimfire pistol for range use and plinking.
What are the common problems with the Taurus TX22?
Users report failure to feed and light strikes as primary complaints, with some reporting they cannot complete a single magazine without issues — and at least one user reporting a 70% failure-to-fire rate. Magazine inconsistency and extraction issues also appear frequently. Most problems may resolve with magazine cleaning, different ammunition, or contacting Taurus support.
Can I dry fire a TX22?
Yes, the TX22 is safe to dry fire. Taurus designed it with a firing pin that stops before contacting the chamber, so repeated dry firing won't damage the pistol. Many rimfire pistols lack this feature, making the TX22 unusual in this regard.
What mags are compatible with Taurus TX22?
Taurus factory magazines come in 10, 16, and 22-round capacities. No confirmed aftermarket extended magazine options are currently available. Factory magazines are generally preferred due to more consistent feeding with rimfire ammunition.
What is the problem with the TX22 extended mag?
Extended magazines for the TX22 suffer from rough, notchy construction that causes binding and feed failures. Users report rounds jamming halfway into the chamber and slides slamming on unfired cartridges. Cleaning and lubrication provide temporary relief but don't fully resolve the issue. Factory magazines remain more reliable.
Does a Taurus TX22 have a threaded barrel?
Several TX22 variants feature threaded barrels, including the TX22 Competition, TX22 T.O.R.O., and TX22 Compact. The standard TX22 does not include a threaded barrel. An included thread protector cap keeps the threads flush with the muzzle when a suppressor is not attached.
What is the difference between Gen 1 and Gen 2 TX22?
Gen 2 features a heavier bull barrel, improved recoil system, and refined trigger compared to Gen 1. The slide cuts and optic mounting location also changed. Gen 2 addressed early feeding, extraction, and ejection problems found in Gen 1 models.
