Frequently Asked Questions
Taurus Tracker .357 Mag for sale
Is the Taurus Tracker 357 a good gun?
Whether it's "good" depends on your needs. Reviewers praise its smooth trigger and reliability. It chambers .357 Mag and .38 Special, which are inherently compatible. It suits trail use and hunting well. Pricing runs $459-$659, making it competitive against costlier alternatives. Test one first to confirm fit and feel.
What is the price of the Taurus Tracker 357?
Taurus Tracker revolvers in .357 Magnum typically cost around $505, with prices varying by barrel length and finish. Five variants are available across 23 retailers.
Is a 357 Magnum enough for deer?
A .357 Magnum can take deer cleanly within 50 yards using proper shot placement. It's considered marginal by some but has accounted for countless deer. Success depends on limiting range, using appropriate ammunition, and placing shots precisely through the lungs or heart.
Does 357 kick harder than 38?
Yes. .357 Magnum generates significantly more recoil than .38 Special due to higher velocity and energy. Felt recoil also depends on gun weight—a heavier revolver absorbs more kick. .38 Special remains milder and easier to shoot accurately for most people.
What is the best ammo for a Taurus 357?
For self-defense, Federal Vital-Shok 140 Grain XPB HP (Barnes Expander) ranks as the best .357 Magnum overall. Federal Hydra-Shok 158-grain, Remington 125-grain hollow points, and Winchester 145gr Silvertip are also strong performers. For hunting, use 158-grain soft points. Practice with .38 Special to manage recoil costs.
Can Taurus 627 shoot 38 special?
Yes. The Taurus 627 chambers .357 Magnum and will safely fire .38 Special and .38 Special +P rounds. Any .357 Magnum revolver accepts .38 Special because the chamber is sized for the longer cartridge, making both calibers interchangeable in the same cylinder.
