Frequently Asked Questions
Taurus G3 9mm for sale
Is the Taurus G3 a good gun?
Good value for the price. G3 owners report reliable performance for range and carry use, with comfortable ergonomics and a full-size frame at 25 ounces. Typically around $277, with most listings $227-$380.
Does a Taurus G3 jam?
Some G3 owners report jams with certain ammo types, particularly hollow points like HST or Fiocchi rounds, often due to bullet profile or magazine issues. Most find it reliable with standard FMJ. A proper break-in period and quality magazines help reduce feeding problems.
Which is better, Taurus G3 or G3c?
The G3 is full-size with a longer barrel and higher capacity, better for range use or home defense. The G3c is compact, making it easier to conceal carry. Both are reliable striker-fired 9mm pistols. Choose based on intended use: concealment favors the G3c, general shooting favors the G3.
What are the disadvantages of a G3?
Common complaints include weight and length, which some find cumbersome for concealed carry. The magazine release placement and trigger feel are frequently criticized. Recoil can feel snappy. Some users report feeding issues with certain ammunition types.
Is the Taurus G3 too big for concealed carry?
Not necessarily. At 7.3 inches long and 25 ounces, the G3 sits between a Glock 17 and 19—manageable for concealed carry with the right holster. Its 1.25-inch width and tapered grip make it easier to conceal than specs suggest. If you prefer a smaller profile, Taurus offers the more compact G3c.
Can I dry fire my Taurus G3?
Yes, dry firing the Taurus G3 is safe. Its striker-fired design handles repeated dry firing without damage. Many shooters use it for dry fire practice, including with laser cartridges. No special precautions are needed beyond standard firearm safety rules.
Does the Taurus G3c jam?
Some users report feeding issues with certain hollow-point rounds, particularly HST and Fiocchi. Most problems occur during slide racking or with specific bullet profiles. Standard FMJ ammunition typically feeds reliably. Switching ammunition brands usually resolves the issue rather than indicating a defective firearm.
What's the best caliber for a Taurus G3?
The Taurus G3 is chambered exclusively in 9mm, so there is no caliber choice to make. 9mm is widely available, affordable, and effective for both self-defense and range use, making it a practical option regardless.
What ammo is best for Taurus G3?
For the G3, standard 115-grain FMJ rounds like Blazer Brass or Winchester USA work reliably for range shooting. For defense, Federal HST 124-grain or 147-grain hollow points are popular choices. Aluminum-cased ammo like Independence 115 FMJ and steel-cased options also function well. Test different loads since feeding preferences vary.
What mags go in a Taurus G3c?
G3c magazines come factory in 15 and 17-round capacities. G2c mags also fit. Some users report compatibility with Canik and Sig Sauer magazines, though fit varies. Aftermarket options like ProMag extended magazines are available. Always test any magazine before relying on it for carry or defense.
Can I use other Taurus mags in my G3C?
G3 full-size magazines fit the G3C but protrude slightly from the bottom. G3C mags won't work in the full-size G3. G2C mags are also compatible. Taurus 24/7 Gen 1 9mm mags and Sig Sauer P226/P228 mags also fit. Test any magazine for reliable feeding before carrying.
What are the common problems with a G3C?
Reported issues include failure to return to battery after firing, which some owners resolve with feed ramp polishing. Trigger feel runs stiff for some users. Slide finish can wear quickly. Ammo sensitivity occurs occasionally, with certain rounds causing feeding problems while others cycle fine. Most G3C owners report reliable performance overall.
Can Taurus G3c shoot +P ammo?
Taurus officially rates the G3c for +P ammunition, per the owner's manual. However, Taurus specifies +P should be reserved for self-defense purposes, not regular range use. Occasional +P use is acceptable, but stick to standard pressure rounds for everyday practice to minimize wear.
Is the Taurus G3c good for concealed carry?
Yes, the G3c works well for concealed carry. Its compact, slim frame is easy to conceal, and the 12-round capacity provides solid firepower. Most users report good accuracy and reliability. At around $277, it offers strong value for an everyday carry pistol.
Is the Taurus G3x a good gun?
Owners and reviewers consistently praise the G3X for reliability, accuracy, and ergonomics. Its 15-round capacity, compact 3.2-inch barrel, and clean trigger make it a solid choice for carry and range use. At around $277, it offers strong value compared to pricier competitors.
