What customers like
Accuracy & Performance68%
Out of the box accuracy equal to my Gold Cup Colt. Impressive to say the least.
Build Quality & Fit61%
Fit and finish is perfect.. The sights are much better than I expected from a mil spec.
Smooth Shooting Experience52%
Shoots smooth and straight right out of the box. The grips are rubberized and very comfortable to hold.
Reliability & Zero Malfunctions48%
Put 1000 rounds through it with only 1 failure to feed. Shoots smooth and fast
Value for Money31%
An insane value. Forged frame, forged slide, forged SS match barrel and the machining tolerances make this feel like a million bucks.
Common concerns
Feeding & Extraction Issues12%
the chamber on this gun wont allow 5 conecutive shots from a magazine without jamming up tight.
Limited Accessories & Magazines8%
only thing is they only put one mag other than that everything is fine
Sight Accuracy Problems5%
sights were WAY off. After getting the sights dialed in, I was completely satisfied
Finish & Paint Quality3%
the frame is a cheap paint job. What looks like brushed stainless is cheap Duracoat.
Frequently Asked Questions
Springfield 1911 for sale
Is the Springfield 1911 any good?
Springfield's 1911 lineup is well-regarded for reliability and value. The Mil-Spec offers classic 1911 performance starting at $640, the Garrison suits range shooting, and the Operator handles defensive duty. Quality is consistent across models. Like any 1911, regular maintenance and quality ammunition are important.
How much is a 1911 pistol from Springfield?
Springfield 1911 pistols range from around $649.99 to over $1,700. Entry-level models start near $650, mid-range options like the Operator run $1,025–$1,184, and premium models such as the TRP reach $1,709.99 or higher. Prices vary by features, finish, and retailer.
Which Springfield Armory 1911 is the best?
"Best" depends on your needs. The Mil-Spec suits budget-conscious classic shooters. The Emissary bridges defensive and custom features in 9mm or .45 ACP. The Ronin offers modern features across calibers. The DS Prodigy AOS excels in competition. Choose based on intended use and caliber preference.
What are the common problems with the Springfield 1911?
Springfield 1911s occasionally experience quality control inconsistencies and feed issues, particularly with hollow-point ammunition. Magazine quality matters—upgrading to Wilson Combat mags often resolves failures. New guns require thorough cleaning, proper lubrication, and a break-in period of 500–600 rounds. Most reliability issues stem from inadequate maintenance or ammunition incompatibility rather than design flaws.
Is the Springfield 1911 9mm a good gun?
Springfield offers several 9mm 1911 models, including the Operator and Ronin. They're generally reliable and accurate pistols. Prices typically range from $668 to $1,548 depending on the model. Most owners report solid performance, though a break-in period of 200–500 rounds is common with 1911s.
What is the best Springfield 1911 9mm?
Springfield makes several 9mm 1911 options. The Ronin is a top value pick, while the Operator suits tactical use. For concealed carry, the EMP is purpose-built for compact 9mm 1911s. The best choice depends on your intended use—range shooting, home defense, or everyday carry.
Is the Springfield 1911 MIL-spec a good gun?
Springfield's Mil-Spec is a reliable, accurate .45 ACP 1911 priced around $900. It's a no-frills design that performs well for defense or range use. Some owners report sharp edges on the hammer. Good value if you want classic 1911 function without premium features.
Is the Springfield Armory 1911 MIL spec a good gun?
Springfield's Mil-Spec is a reliable .45 ACP 1911 that retails around $900. It delivers classic 1911 function without premium features, making it good value for defense or range use. Some owners report sharp edges on the hammer. A solid option if you want a proven design at a reasonable price.
What is the best ammo for a 1911?
Best ammo depends on your 1911's caliber. For .45 ACP models, factory brass-cased 230-grain FMJ ball ammunition is reliable and what the platform was designed for. For 9mm variants, quality factory loads work well. Avoid steel-cased ammo and reloads during break-in to isolate any reliability issues to the gun itself.
How much is the Springfield Armory 1911 TRP?
Springfield Armory 1911 TRP pistols start at $999.99 for used models, with new listings reaching $1,929.00. The TRP line includes .45 ACP and 9mm variants, some with optic-ready slides.
Is the Springfield TRP a good gun?
Springfield's TRP is a well-regarded factory 1911, praised for accuracy, reliability, and solid build quality. It suits competition, carry, and range use. Pricing runs approximately $1,899–$1,999. Whether it fits your needs depends on your budget and how it compares to other 1911s you're considering.
Is the Springfield TRP discontinued?
The TRP was discontinued (except for California-compliant models) before Springfield Armory relaunched the line in 2024 with six configurations in .45 ACP and 9mm, including optic-ready models.
What's the difference between 1911 and 1911A1?
Original 1911s had a longer trigger and shorter grip safety spur. The 1911A1, adopted in 1924, introduced a shorter trigger, longer grip safety spur, arched mainspring housing, thicker front sight, and relief cuts behind the trigger guard for better grip.
