Frequently Asked Questions
Mossberg Tactical 12 gauge for sale
Is the Mossberg 590 tactical good?
The Mossberg 590 Tactical is a reliable pump-action shotgun well-suited for home defense and tactical use. It offers corrosion-resistant construction, accessory rail systems, and straightforward disassembly. Priced around $678, it comes in 29 variants and is widely praised for durability and customization flexibility.
What is the price of the Mossberg 590 tactical?
Mossberg 590 Tactical shotguns typically cost around $561, with prices ranging from $379 to $589 depending on barrel length, finish, and included accessories. The 12-month average new price runs approximately $534.
What's better, Mossberg 500 or 590?
Both are reliable pump-action shotguns. The 590 adds a magazine clean-out cap and slightly longer receiver, making it marginally better for tactical and home defense roles. The 500 costs less and handles hunting equally well. Choice depends on your intended use and budget.
Will a Mossberg 590 slam fire?
No. The Mossberg 590 has a disconnector that prevents slam firing by default, unlike older designs like the Ithaca 37. However, users have documented achieving slam fire capability through modifications to the disconnector mechanism, so it is not impossible to replicate with modification.
Does Mossberg make a tactical semi-auto shotgun?
Yes. Mossberg makes several tactical semi-auto shotguns, including the 940 Pro Tactical SPX and the newer 990 Aftershock, a 12-gauge, 3-inch semi-auto available with a 14.75-inch or 18.5-inch barrel.
How many shells will a Mossberg 590 hold?
The Mossberg 590 is available in various capacities ranging from 6 to 20 rounds depending on the model. Some variants accept detachable magazines in 5, 10, 15, or 20-round capacities. The 590S models cycle 1.75", 2.75", and 3" shells interchangeably without an adapter.
What is the best ammo for a Mossberg 590?
For range shooting, standard target loads work well and cost less. For home defense, use buckshot for most scenarios or slugs when penetration through barriers is needed. Federal ammunition with flight control wads maintains tight patterns. Always check local laws regarding ammunition restrictions.
Will a pistol grip fit all Mossberg 500 models?
No. Mossberg lists pistol grip compatibility specifically for the 500, 505, 510, 590, and Maverick 88 models. Other variants may differ. Always verify against your specific model and receiver type, and consult your owner's manual before purchasing.
