Frequently Asked Questions
Mossberg Tactical for sale
What is the most reliable Mossberg shotgun?
Mossberg's 590 is generally considered the most reliable, built to military specifications and used by law enforcement. The 500, in production since 1961, is nearly as dependable and more affordable. Both are pump-actions with proven track records; your choice depends on intended use and budget.
What is the difference between the Mossberg 500 and the 500 tactical?
The Mossberg 500 Tactical is a variant optimized for defensive use, typically featuring a shorter barrel, pistol grip, and sometimes a heat shield or rail. The standard 500 is configured for broader uses like hunting. Both are pump-action shotguns chambered in 12 gauge, 20 gauge, or .410 bore.
What is the price of the Mossberg 590 tactical?
Mossberg 590 Tactical shotguns typically cost around $561, with prices ranging from roughly $379 to $589 depending on the variant, barrel length, and features.
Which 12-gauge is best for home defense?
The Mossberg 590 and Remington 870 are reliable pump-action choices around $500–700. Semi-automatics like the Beretta 1301 reduce recoil but cost more. Choose an 18–20 inch barrel for maneuverability. Load with 00 buckshot or #1 buck. Ultimately, pick whichever you can operate confidently under stress.
Does Mossberg make a semi-automatic tactical shotgun?
Yes. Mossberg makes the 940 Pro Tactical, a semi-automatic 12-gauge shotgun designed for defensive and tactical use. The line includes at least one variant, the 940 Pro Tactical SPX. Mossberg describes it as a true fighting tactical shotgun built for functionality, reliability, and longevity.
