Frequently Asked Questions
Glock 23 for sale
Is a Glock 23 a 9 or a 40?
The Glock 23 is a .40 S&W caliber pistol. It's a compact semi-auto holding 13 rounds, suited for concealed or open carry. With an aftermarket barrel and magazines, it can be converted to 9mm, but it ships from the factory as a .40 caliber firearm.
Is the Glock 23 Gen 5 a good gun?
Whether it's "good" depends on your needs. Gen 5 shooters report reliable performance, manageable recoil for a .40, and quick follow-up shots. The 13-round capacity suits self-defense and carry. If you prefer lighter recoil or higher capacity, other options exist. Median price runs around $545.
Is the Glock 23 Gen 5 discontinued?
Yes, Glock discontinued the Gen 5 Model 23. The .40 S&W caliber fell out of favor with law enforcement, prompting Glock to streamline its lineup.
Is a Glock 23 Gen 4 a good gun?
Whether it suits you depends on your priorities. Gen 4 shooters report smooth triggers, reliable performance, and manageable recoil for .40 S&W. Its 13-round capacity works for self-defense and carry. If you prefer lighter recoil or higher capacity, alternatives exist. Median pricing runs around $545.
Is a used Glock 23 a good value?
Value depends heavily on condition and price paid. Used examples range from $180–$450, averaging around $350. The Glock 23 is reliable for carry and self-defense, but .40 S&W ammunition costs more than 9mm and demand has declined. Compare against used 9mm compacts before deciding.
Is a Glock 23 too big to carry?
No. Glock designed the 23 as a compact pistol for concealed carry, matching the Glock 19 in size and weight. Its 13-round .40 S&W capacity is solid, though it is notably larger than subcompacts like the Glock 27. Concealability depends on your body type, clothing, and holster selection.
Which Glock 23 gen is the best?
Best generation depends on your priorities. Gen 5 offers the most refined ergonomics and feels better than previous generations. Gen 4 improved recoil management over Gen 3. Gen 3 appeals to those who prefer finger grooves. All are reliable .40 S&W compacts—handle each to find your best fit.
Is Glock 23 better than Glock 19?
Neither is objectively better—both are reliable compacts suited to different priorities. The G19 offers easier concealment, more aftermarket parts, and 9mm's lower recoil and cost. The G23 delivers .40 S&W's greater stopping power but with snappier recoil. Choose based on your preference for shootability, concealability, and ammunition availability.
What's the difference between Glock 23 & 23C?
The 23C features a ported barrel and slide that reduce recoil and muzzle flip compared to the standard 23. Both fire .40 S&W and hold 13 rounds, but the C model produces more flash and slightly lower velocity due to compensation. Recoil control improves noticeably, though the C is harder to find and costs more.
Is Glock 22 or 23 better?
Choice depends on your priorities. The G22 is full-size with a 15-round capacity, better long-range accuracy, and easier recoil control. The G23 holds 13 rounds and is more concealable. For everyday carry, choose the G23; for range use or duty carry, the G22.
What slides fit on a Glock 23?
Glock 19 slides fit Glock 23 frames since both share the same compact frame dimensions. You must swap the barrel and extractor to match your caliber. Aftermarket slides from makers like Norsso and KM Tactical offer Gen 1–4 compatible options, many with optic cuts, ranging $269–$509.
Can I shoot 9mm in my Glock 23?
No, not without modification. The Glock 23 is chambered in .40 S&W and cannot safely fire 9mm as-is. You can convert it by installing a 9mm conversion barrel and using 9mm magazines. A barrel swap alone is insufficient — you need both components.
What mags will fit a Glock 23?
Glock 23 uses .40 S&W magazines with a standard 13-round capacity. G22 (full-size) magazines also fit but will protrude. G27 magazines fit but hold fewer rounds. Aftermarket extended magazines are available. Confirm compatibility with your pistol's generation before purchasing.
