Frequently Asked Questions
Glock 22 Gen 5 for sale
Is the Glock 22 Gen 5 a good gun?
Glock 22 Gen 5 is a reliable full-size .40 S&W pistol. The heavier slide and improved recoil spring reduce felt recoil compared to earlier .40 models. It offers strong stopping power but the full-size frame limits concealed carry comfort. Typically priced around $584, with 18 variants available.
How reliable is the Glock 22?
The Glock 22 is highly reliable. Its simple striker-fired mechanism has few parts to fail, and it tolerates dirt and varied ammunition well. Law enforcement agencies have used it as a standard-issue sidearm for decades, which reflects its durability. New shooters should expect noticeable .40 S&W recoil.
Which gen Glock 22 is best?
Gen 5 is the current production model with the most refined design, featuring improved ergonomics and a flared magwell. It fires .40 S&W with 15-round capacity, typically around $550. Older generations remain reliable, but Gen 5 offers the best overall package if budget allows.
What is the average price of a Glock 22?
Glock 22 pistols typically cost around $493 new, with Gen 5 models ranging from roughly $550 for the standard version to around $650 for the MOS configuration, depending on generation, condition, and retailer.
What Glock mags fit in a Glock 22?
Glock 22 uses .40 S&W magazines. Standard capacity is 15 rounds. Glock 23 and Glock 27 magazines are also .40 S&W and will fit, though shorter mags may not lock in flush. Glock 17 (9mm) and Glock 20 (10mm) mags are incompatible due to different dimensions.
Is the Glock 22 Gen 5 good for concealed carry?
The Glock 22 Gen 5 works for concealed carry if you prioritize stopping power and capacity over compactness. At 8 inches long and over 34 oz loaded, it's bulky for daily concealment. With an IWB holster and proper clothing, it's feasible for those accepting the size tradeoff.
Is Glock 22 Gen 5 good for home defense?
Yes. The Glock 22 Gen 5 is reliable and accurate, chambered in .40 S&W with a 15-round capacity. Its full-size frame aids control, and the improved recoil spring manages the cartridge's snap well. Law enforcement widely uses it, making it a solid home defense choice.
Is the G22 Gen 5 discontinued?
Yes. Glock has discontinued the G22 Gen 5, along with Gen 3 and Gen 4 versions. Glock is discontinuing 34+ Gen 4 and Gen 5 models by November 30, 2025, with new Gen V versions expected in December 2025.
What is the price of a Glock 22 Gen 5?
Glock 22 Gen 5 pistols typically cost around $584 on our marketplace. Most listings fall between $491 and $683. Prices vary by condition, finish, and included accessories.
What is the best ammo for a Glock 22 40 caliber?
For defense, quality hollow points like Federal HST, Speer Gold Dot, or Hornady Critical Duty in 165 or 180 grain work well. For range practice, Federal Champion, Winchester White Box, or Magtech 165-grain FMJ are economical. The Glock 22 reliably handles all standard .40 S&W loads.
What caliber is a Glock 22 Gen 5?
The Glock 22 Gen 5 is chambered in .40 S&W. It holds 15 rounds in its standard magazine.
Is a Glock 22 better than a 9mm?
The Glock 22 fires .40 S&W, which delivers more energy than 9mm but with more recoil and higher ammo cost. However, the Glock 22 can be converted to 9mm using a drop-in conversion barrel with G17 magazines, making it versatile. Neither caliber is objectively better; it depends on your use and preference.
Is the Glock 22 Gen 5 discontinued?
Yes, the Glock 22 Gen 5 has been discontinued. Glock has discontinued the Gen 3, Gen 4, and Gen 5 versions of the G22, as well as the G22 MOS Gen 5. Our marketplace still lists available units from sellers, with a median price around $584.
