Frequently Asked Questions
Glock 22 for sale
How much does a Glock 22 typically cost?
A Glock 22 typically costs around $493 new, with the Gen 5 running about $550 new. Used models average around $330, with used Gen 5 ranging $200–$400. Prices vary by generation and condition, with used models selling lower than new ones.
Is the Glock 22 Gen 5 a good gun?
Whether it's "good" depends on your needs. Gen 5 owners praise its controllable recoil and reliability for duty or defense use. The full-size frame suits range training and duty carry. The .40 S&W offers solid stopping power, though some prefer 9mm for higher capacity and lower ammunition cost.
Is the Glock 22 too big to carry?
The Glock 22 is a full-size pistol at just under 8 inches long. It's manageable for everyday carry, particularly with a good holster, but its size makes concealment challenging. Many people prefer the compact G23 or subcompact G27 for easier concealed carry.
Can I dry fire my Glock?
Yes, Glock explicitly permits dry firing. The striker-fired design handles it safely without damage. Many owners dry fire regularly for practice and cleaning. Glock recommends snap caps specifically when dry firing for a long period of time, as the striker is the primary concern during extended sessions.
Can a Glock 22 shoot 40 cal?
Yes. The Glock 22 is chambered in .40 S&W, so it fires .40 caliber ammunition. It's a full-size striker-fired pistol with a 15-round standard magazine capacity. The .40 S&W cartridge was popular for law enforcement duty use.
What mags can fit a Glock 22?
Glock 22 magazines are double-stack .40 S&W mags holding 15 rounds standard. Gen 3, Gen 4, and Gen 5 G22 magazines interchange freely. G22 mags also fit the smaller G23 and G27 pistols, protruding slightly from those grips. OEM and aftermarket options are widely available on our marketplace.
Is Glock discontinuing the Glock 22?
Glock has officially discontinued the G22 (Standard | .40 S&W | GEN4), listing it on their official discontinued pistols page. This aligns with the broader decline of .40 S&W as law enforcement agencies shifted to 9mm. Glock continues to service existing models regardless of production status.
Can civilians own a Glock 22?
Yes, civilians can own a Glock 22. It is a full-size .40 S&W striker-fired pistol legal for personal defense in most U.S. jurisdictions. Though discontinued by Glock, new and used inventory remains available through retailers, typically priced around $525.
