Frequently Asked Questions
FN 9mm for sale
What's the best FN handgun?
The FN 509 series is FN's strongest lineup, covering full-size, compact, and midsize options for duty or carry. The FN Reflex suits micro concealed carry, while the Five-seveN MK3 MRD fits tactical roles. Prices typically range $495–$1,330 depending on variant.
How much is the FN 9mm compact?
The FN 509 Compact typically retails around $730, with prices ranging from $495 to $1,330 depending on the variant and retailer. The 509 Compact starts at $639 MSRP. The 509 Compact Tactical starts at $914 MSRP due to its additional features.
Is the FN 509 compact a good gun?
The FN 509 Compact is a reliable defensive carry pistol with good accuracy and 12–15 round capacity in a frame slightly smaller than a Glock 19. It has strong ergonomics and is easy to maintain. Fit and suitability vary by individual hand size and intended use.
What are the common problems with the FN 509 compact?
Reported issues include trigger stiffness, slide stop malfunctions, failure to feed, and ejection problems. Some users experienced stovepipes or inconsistent performance early on. Striker breakage from dry firing without snap caps has been noted. Most issues resolve after proper break-in, cleaning, lubrication, and ammunition testing.
What magazines fit in a 9mm FN 509?
Factory FN 509 magazines are cross-compatible across all variants, including Compact, Midsize, Tactical, LS Edge, and CC Edge. The standard 509 uses 17-round magazines, the Compact uses 12 or 15-round magazines, the Midsize uses 15-round magazines, and the Tactical accepts 17 or 24-round magazines. Match capacity to your intended use.
Can you conceal carry a FN 509?
Yes. FN offers multiple 509 variants suited for concealed carry. The full-size 509 can work with the right holster, but the Compact or Midsize models are easier to conceal due to their smaller frames. All are striker-fired pistols commonly used for everyday defensive carry.
Why was the FNS 9 discontinued?
FN discovered a delayed-fire condition in FNS pistols manufactured before February 12, 2017. The Arizona Department of Public Safety found that FNS 9 pistols could fire unexpectedly, and both Baltimore and Arizona PDs replaced the FNS series due to design defects. FN shifted focus to the FN 509, which replaced the FNS line.
