Frequently Asked Questions
FN 509 Tactical for sale
Is the FN 509 tactical a good gun?
The FN 509 Tactical is a reliable, full-size striker-fired 9mm with a suppressor-ready barrel, optics compatibility, and 17-24 round capacity. Priced around $929, it's well-regarded for its trigger and feature set, making it a solid choice for duty use or home defense.
Is FN 509 good for concealed carry?
The FN 509 is full-size, making concealed carry more challenging, but reviewers note no issue carrying it for self-defense. The FN 509 Compact, Midsize, and CC EDGE are better suited for concealment, with the Midsize considered a serious contender for a carry striker-fired 9mm.
What are common FN 509 problems?
User reports mention trigger stiffness, slide stop malfunctions, failure to feed, stovepipes, and erratic ejections. Some owners experienced broken firing pins causing intermittent firing. Most issues resolve after proper break-in and lubrication. Contact FN if problems persist after a second range session.
What is the difference between 509 and 509 tactical?
The FN 509 is the standard full-size 9mm pistol. The 509 Tactical adds a threaded barrel for suppressors, an optics-ready slide, and an extended magazine capacity up to 24 rounds. Both share the same core platform, but the Tactical is purpose-built for duty and suppressed use at a higher price.
What mags fit the FN 509 Tactical?
Factory FN 509 magazines fit the 509 Tactical. Standard capacity is 17 rounds, with extended options up to 24 rounds. All genuine FN 509 magazines are cross-compatible across the full 509 lineup.
How much is the FN 509 Tactical 9mm?
FN 509 Tactical 9mm pistols carry an MSRP of $989.00, with average market prices around $801.51 new. Actual sale prices vary widely across retailers.
Does the FN 509 Tactical have a threaded barrel?
Yes. The FN 509 Tactical has a 4.5-inch cold hammer-forged stainless-steel barrel with ½×28 threads, compatible with most 9mm suppressors and compensators. A thread cap with an integrated O-ring is included to protect the threads when not in use.
What red dots fit in a FN 509 tactical?
The FN 509 Tactical's optics-ready slide uses the FN Low-Profile Optics Mounting System (LPOMS). Compatible optics include the Holosun 509T, Trijicon RMR, Leupold DeltaPoint Pro, and Vortex Venom. Many others fit using included adapter plates. Verify your optic's footprint against FN's compatibility list before buying.
