Frequently Asked Questions
Taurus .357 Magnum revolver for sale
Is the Taurus 357 a good revolver?
Taurus .357 revolvers offer solid reliability and value. Models like the 66 and 650 feature seven and six-round capacities and accept both .357 Magnum and .38 Special ammunition. Priced around $492, they perform well for self-defense or sport shooting without breaking the budget.
What is the best Taurus 357?
"Best" depends on your needs. The 627 suits hunting and sport shooting, praised for its action, balance, accuracy, and dependability. The 605 works for concealed carry with five rounds. The 650 suits home defense. Prices typically start around $492. Compare barrel lengths and capacity for your intended use.
Is the Taurus 605 357 Magnum 38 Special?
Yes. The Taurus 605 fires both .357 Magnum and .38 Special +P ammunition. Its cylinder accepts either caliber, making it versatile for training with lighter .38 loads or carrying full-power .357 rounds for personal protection.
How much is a Taurus Model 66 357 Magnum?
Taurus Model 66 revolvers in .357 Magnum average around $694 new and $606 used. Retail listings typically range from approximately $380 to $576, varying by barrel length, finish (blued or stainless steel), and specific variant.
Is a snub nose 357 good for self-defense?
Snub nose .357 Magnums are viable for self-defense. They're compact, more powerful than .38 Special, and penetrate effectively. Trade-offs include sharp recoil, reduced sight radius, and a shorter barrel that limits velocity. Regular training matters significantly. The Ruger SP101 and Taurus 605 are popular purpose-built options.
Does Taurus make a 7 shot 357?
Yes. Taurus makes several 7-shot .357 Magnum revolvers, including the Model 66, Model 617, and the Taurus Tracker. These double-action/single-action revolvers are available in multiple barrel lengths and finishes.
What are the different Taurus 357 models?
Taurus offers several .357 Magnum revolver models: the 66 (7-shot), 605 (5-shot compact), 605 T.O.R.O. (optics-ready), 627 (7-shot), 692 (also includes an additional 9mm cylinder), and the Raging Hunter. Models differ by barrel length, capacity, and use, ranging from concealed carry to hunting.
What are common problems with the Taurus 605?
Reported issues include point-of-impact problems with fixed sights, heavy trigger pull, and inconsistent quality control. Some owners report reliability problems requiring warranty service. The compact frame makes .357 Magnum recoil difficult to manage. Taurus provides a warranty program covering defective units.
