Frequently Asked Questions
FN FNS-9 for sale
Why was the FNS-9 discontinued?
FN discontinued the FNS series and replaced it with the FN 509 line. The transition was driven partly by design defects, including a condition that could cause delayed fire, prompting a service bulletin and leading agencies like Baltimore PD and Arizona DPS to replace their FNS pistols before the 509 launched.
Is the FNS-9 a good gun?
The FNS-9 is a reliable, accurate, well-built striker-fired pistol with good ergonomics, suitable for concealed carry or home defense. It's been largely replaced by FN's 509 line, so availability may be limited. If you find one, it's a solid choice around $400–$500 used.
What is the problem with the FNS 9?
FN identified a delayed-fire condition in FNS pistols manufactured before February 12, 2017, occurring under specific circumstances when the slide is forced slightly out of battery. No field incidents were reported. FN issued a service bulletin; affected pistols can be inspected or serviced by FN.
What is the problem with the FNS-9?
FN identified a delayed-fire condition in FNS pistols made before February 12, 2017, when the slide is forced slightly out of battery. Notably, the Arizona Department of Public Safety found FNS-9 pistols could fire when holstered, linked to a combination with Safariland holsters. Affected pistols can be inspected or serviced by FN.
Will a FN 509 MAG fit in a FNs 9?
FN 509 magazines will fit and function in the FNS-9. However, FNS-9 magazines won't fully seat in a 509. There is no confirmed modification to make FNS-9 magazines compatible with the 509, so for reliable function in a 509, use factory 509 magazines.
What is the difference between FN FNS and 509?
The FNS is FN's older striker-fired pistol while the 509 is its newer successor, developed from FN's MHS military trials entry. The 509 offers improved grip texture, a dual-spring recoil system, better ergonomics, and a more modular design. Magazines are not cross-compatible between the two.
What bullets do FNs hold?
The FNS-9 fires 9mm ammunition, including standard and +P overpressure loads. Common choices are 124-grain hollow points for defense and 115–124 grain full metal jacket for practice. The magazine holds 17 rounds, plus one in the chamber.
What is the best FN pistol on the market?
"Best" depends on your needs. The FN 509 series is widely praised for reliability and modularity. The FN Reflex suits concealed carry at around $499. The FNX-45 Tactical appeals to those wanting a larger caliber. Compare size, trigger feel, and intended use before deciding.
How much is a FNS 9C?
FNS-9C pistols average around $315 used and approximately $500 new, with prices varying based on condition, retailer, and variant.
Who makes FNS 9C?
FN Herstal, a Belgian firearms manufacturer, makes the FNS-9C. It is a striker-fired compact 9mm pistol with ambidextrous controls, designed for concealed carry and personal defense. The barrel length is approximately 3.5 to 3.6 inches depending on the source.
