Frequently Asked Questions
Colt 1911 Defender for sale
Is the Colt Defender any good?
The Colt Defender is well-regarded for concealed carry. Owners report strong reliability and accuracy in a compact 1911 platform chambered in .45 ACP. It's currently in production and widely available, typically priced around $957, with most listings ranging from $820 to $1,047.
What are some common problems with the Defender?
Colt Defender owners occasionally report tight tolerances requiring a break-in period, feeding issues with certain ammunition, and slide-to-frame fit concerns on early examples. Most problems resolve with quality ammunition and proper maintenance.
Which Defender is the best to buy?
"Best" depends on your needs. All three Colt Defender variants share the same .45 ACP subcompact platform, suited for concealed carry and self-defense. Differences are minor—mainly grip safety or night sight options. Choose based on your preferred features. Median price runs $957, with two variants currently in stock.
Why is a Defender so expensive?
Colt Defender pricing reflects its 1911 platform engineering, compact frame, and .45 ACP chambering. Colt's manufacturing standards and brand reputation contribute to costs. Prices typically run around $957, with most listings falling between $820 and $1,047.
Do Colt 1911 hold their value?
Colt 1911s generally hold their value well, particularly vintage models. Recent production guns retain value reasonably but don't necessarily outperform other quality brands. A current Colt Defender retails around $957. Buying quality examples and maintaining them properly helps maximize resale value.
Is the Colt 1911 good for concealed carry?
The Colt Defender is purpose-built for concealed carry, offering reliable .45 ACP stopping power in a compact frame. Drawbacks include greater weight than modern polymer pistols and limited magazine capacity. It suits carriers who prioritize power over a lighter, higher-capacity alternative. Median price is around $957.
Is a Colt Defender a real gun?
Yes, the Colt Defender is a real, currently produced semi-automatic pistol. It is a compact 1911-platform firearm available in both 9mm Luger and .45 ACP, designed for concealed carry. Colt lists the Defender 9mm at $1,149.00 on their website, and it is widely available through firearms retailers.
