Frequently Asked Questions
Colt .45 1911 for sale
Is a Colt 45 1911 a good gun?
The Colt 1911 is a proven, accurate pistol chambered in .45 ACP with an excellent single-action trigger. It rewards proper technique but requires practice to master. Colt offers 41 variants from $810 to $2,500. Whether it suits you depends on your hand size, budget, and willingness to train with it.
Do all 1911 .45 magazines fit?
Not universally. Full-size and compact 1911 frames require different magazine sizes. Most .45 ACP single-stack magazines work across similar frame sizes, but fit varies by manufacturer. Verify compatibility with your specific pistol before purchasing additional magazines.
Do all 1911 grips fit the same?
No. Grip fit depends on frame size (full-size vs. compact), magwell presence, and features like ambidextrous safeties. Grips also vary in thickness. Always verify your specific pistol model before purchasing replacement grips.
Are Colt 45 and 1911 the same?
Not exactly. "Colt 45" refers to any Colt pistol chambered in .45 ACP. The 1911 is a specific pistol design that Colt manufactures in .45 ACP. While most modern Colt .45s are 1911-pattern guns, the terms aren't interchangeable.
Do Colt 1911 hold their value?
Colt 1911s generally hold their value well, particularly older or limited-edition models. Condition, originality, and market timing all affect resale. They tend to retain value better than many competitors, but no firearm is a guaranteed investment. Buy quality examples and maintain them properly.
What is the most common problem with the 1911?
Feeding failures are the most commonly reported problem, typically caused by poor-quality magazines, weak spring tension, or a worn feed ramp. Using quality magazines and keeping the feed ramp clean and polished resolves most feeding issues.
What is the best holster for a 1911?
The best holster depends on your carry method and needs. For IWB concealed carry, consider Mission First Tactical or Alien Gear. For open carry, Blade-Tech offers solid retention. Galco provides quality leather options. Fit, comfort, and retention level should drive your decision.
What's special about the Colt Commander 45?
The Colt Commander features a shortened 4.25-inch barrel compared to the full-size Government Model, reducing weight while retaining standard 1911 ergonomics. Introduced in 1950 with an aluminum alloy frame, it was offered in .45 ACP, 9mm, and .38 Super, making it versatile and popular for concealed carry.
