Styer’s SM12 is a heirloom rifle with a distinct European style. It comes equipped with Styer’s innovative HCS (Hand Cocking System) – an advanced safety feature based on Styer’s Safe Bolt System. It replaces the conventional safety with a tang-mounted button used to cock and de-cock the rifle. When pushed forward, the HCS loads the firing pin, engages the trigger sear, and deactivates the SM12’s internal safety. When pulled back, the HCS unloads the firing pin, disengages the trigger sear, and activates the internal safety. This configuration is makes the SM12 one of the safest hunting rifles on the market, and manipulating the HCS can be done completely silently to avoid spooking potential game.
Like all Styer rifles, the SM12 offers exceptional accuracy. This is largely thanks to the SM12’s fine-tuned set trigger which offers the user 2 trigger pull methods. The standard trigger pull option breaks at 1.75lbs. The second trigger pull option is activated by pushing the trigger forward to the “set” position, causing the trigger to break a clean 0.5lbs. Accuracy is further enhanced by the Styer’s OBP (Optimized Barrel Profile), which incorporates matched barrel lengths and enhanced barrel floating characteristics to guarantee perfect shooting characteristics. The barrel itself is made using Styer’s renowned cold-hammer forging process, and features a match-grade muzzle crown and a durable anti-corrosion Mannox finish. Other features of the SM12 includes a handsome stock made from fine European walnut. The forend and grip section features “fish-scale” checkering for optimal grip, and a Bavarian-style cheekpiece promotes proper alignment between the shooter’s eye and a mounted optic.
