Frequently Asked Questions
Walther P22 for sale
Is the Walther P22 a good gun?
The Walther P22 is a decent .22 LR pistol for plinking and target practice. It's lightweight, accurate, and affordable at around $285. It's not suitable for self-defense due to the caliber. Some users report feeding issues with certain ammunition brands.
What are common problems with Walther P22?
Users frequently report failure to feed, failure to eject, and slide return issues. Extractor problems causing jams are common. These issues often improve with high-velocity ammunition and regular cleaning. Walther offers warranty service for persistent malfunctions.
Is a P22 good for self-defense?
.22 LR lacks the stopping power of 9mm or larger calibers, making it a poor self-defense choice. Most experts recommend centerfire options. The P22 is better suited for training and target shooting, though it beats being unarmed if nothing else is available.
How many bullets does a P22 hold?
The Walther P22 magazine holds 10 rounds of .22 LR ammunition.
What is the difference between the P22 and the P22Q?
P22 and P22Q share the same core mechanics but are not identical. The Q adds updated grip stippling, different slide serrations, a pattern detail on the extended magazine nose, and removes the key lock found on the original P22. That lock removal is a real mechanical difference, not just cosmetic.
How much is a used Walther 22 pistol worth?
Used Walther P22 pistols average around $217 depending on condition. New models average around $304. Prices vary by variant, included accessories, and wear. Check GunBroker or local dealers for current pricing.
Does Walther P22 have a threaded barrel?
All Walther P22s come with threaded barrels as standard — threading is how the barrel sleeve and nut secure the barrel in the frame. The current P22 Q is suppressor-ready. California-compliant versions have a permanently secured nut preventing suppressor attachment, but the barrel itself is still threaded.
What is the best ammo for a P22?
High-velocity .22 LR rounds work best in the P22. CCI Mini-Mags and Federal bulk pack are reliable choices. Winchester Wildcat and Aguila high-velocity also cycle well. The P22 is ammo-sensitive, so test several brands to find what your specific pistol prefers. Avoid standard-velocity rounds.
