Frequently Asked Questions
Taurus PT92 for sale
Is the Taurus PT92 a good gun?
PT92 owners praise its soft recoil, accuracy, and reliability. It's a Beretta 92 clone with a proven design, currently available in eight variants for around $510. For a full-size 9mm duty pistol, it's generally well-regarded, though suitability depends on your specific needs.
Is the Taurus PT92 still made?
Yes, Taurus still manufactures the PT92. It's a full-size 9mm pistol with a double/single-action trigger, available in several variants through numerous retailers, typically priced around $500.
What does afs stand for on a Taurus PT92?
AFS stands for Ambidextrous Fire Selection, referring to the ambidextrous safety/decocker system on the Taurus PT92 AFS. This allows both left- and right-handed shooters to operate the safety lever, which is mounted on the frame rather than the slide.
Will Beretta 92 magazine fit Taurus PT92?
Beretta 92 magazines can fit the Taurus PT92 and can be modified to work reliably in it. However, this compatibility is one-directional — Taurus PT92 magazines do not fit the Beretta 92. For guaranteed reliability, PT92-specific magazines are still recommended, but Beretta 92 mags are a viable option for PT92 owners.
Is a Taurus PT92 the same as a Beretta 92?
Not identical, but closely related. Taurus acquired Beretta's Brazilian manufacturing plant and based the PT92 on the Beretta 92 design. Both are full-size 9mm DA/SA pistols with similar controls and takedown procedures. The PT92 typically costs less and many shooters find them comparable in quality.
Where is the Taurus PT92 made?
Taurus manufactures the PT92 at its factory in Porto Alegre, Brazil. The company acquired Beretta's original Brazilian manufacturing facility and tooling, which had been set up in São Paulo, allowing Taurus to produce the PT92 based on the Beretta 92 design.
Does the Taurus 92 have a threaded barrel?
Standard Taurus 92 models don't come with threaded barrels from the factory. However, match-grade drop-in threaded barrels are available for the PT92/PT99 from aftermarket manufacturers like Match Grade Machine, making installation straightforward without requiring gunsmith threading services.
How many rounds does a Taurus PT92 hold?
The Taurus PT92 holds 17 rounds of 9mm in its magazine, plus one in the chamber for 18 total. Earlier versions used 15-round magazines before the upgrade to 17-round capacity.
