Frequently Asked Questions
Taurus 1911 for sale
Are Taurus 1911s any good?
Taurus 1911s are decent budget options, typically priced around $500–$700. Users generally praise accuracy and value. Common complaints include heavy trigger pull and occasional feeding issues. Quality control can be inconsistent, but most owners report reliable performance for the price.
Will dry firing a 1911 damage it?
Dry firing a 1911 is generally safe and will not damage the firing pin. Unlike some firearms, the 1911 handles dry fire without issue. Snap caps are an optional precaution if you prefer extra peace of mind, but they are not necessary to protect the gun.
Where is Taurus 1911 made?
Taurus manufactures the PT1911 at its factory in Brazil. The Bainbridge, Georgia facility is associated with Heritage branded firearms, not Taurus 1911 production. Taurus does handle importation and service for US-market firearms, and the company is developing a larger US facility.
What is the price of Commander 45?
The Commander 45 is not a recognized product in our data. If you mean the Taurus PT1911 Commander in .45 ACP, prices typically range from $444 to $702, averaging around $575. We track 37 configurations across 35 retailers, with 19 currently in stock.
What are the advantages of a 1911 commander?
A Commander offers a shorter slide and barrel than the full-size Government model, making it lighter and faster to draw. It retains the full-size grip and 8-round magazine capacity, striking a balance between concealability and shootability that appeals to defensive carry users.
What's the typical lifespan of a Taurus 1911?
A Taurus PT1911 typically lasts 50,000–100,000 rounds before major components wear out. Recoil springs need periodic replacement, but the interval is far longer than commonly overstated figures suggest. Extractors eventually wear too. The frame and slide generally outlast these smaller parts with routine cleaning and maintenance.
