Frequently Asked Questions
Springfield TRP for sale
How much is a Springfield TRP worth?
Springfield TRP pistols average $1,619.77 new and $1,127.80 used, with a 12-month new average of $1,591.67. Used examples in very good to excellent condition typically fetch $800–$1,500 on the secondary market.
Is the Springfield TRP a good gun?
Springfield's TRP consistently earns praise for accuracy, reliability, and build quality across competition, carry, and duty roles. It competes with custom 1911 builds at a lower price. It has proven itself over two decades, though it suits those already comfortable with the 1911 platform.
What does TRP stand for in Springfield Armory?
TRP stands for Tactical Response Pistol. Springfield Armory developed it after the FBI's Hostage Rescue Team selected the Springfield Professional 1911, aiming to offer similar custom-grade features and performance in a more accessible semi-custom package.
Is the Springfield TRP discontinued?
No, the TRP is currently in production. Springfield Armory relaunched the line in 2024 with six configurations, available in both 9mm and .45 ACP.
Which Springfield Armory 1911 is the best?
"Best" depends on your needs. Springfield offers variants across full-size and compact frames in 9mm and .45 ACP. The TRP suits competition and tactical roles; the Mil-Spec delivers classic simplicity at a lower price. Identify your intended use—carry, competition, or duty—before deciding.
What is the difference between the Springfield TRP and the operator?
The TRP features a hand-fit slide and frame, night sights, and a flared mag well, emphasizing custom-grade fitting. Key differences between the models include bull barrel versus bushing barrel and one-piece versus two-piece guide rod configurations. A TRP Operator variant also exists, blending features from both models. Both chamber .45 ACP.
What are the common problems with the Springfield 1911?
Springfield 1911s occasionally show quality control inconsistencies, including feeding or ejection failures. Some pistols are ammunition-sensitive. New guns benefit from thorough cleaning, proper lubrication, and a 500–600 round break-in period. Most issues resolve with regular maintenance and use.
