Frequently Asked Questions
Springfield EMP 9mm for sale
How much is a Springfield EMP worth?
Springfield EMP pistols average around $830 new and $733 used. Most sell in the $500–$900 range depending on condition, though some listings reach over $1,000. Prices vary by condition, specific model year, and seller.
Is the Springfield EMP a good gun?
The Springfield EMP is well-regarded for concealed carry. Reviewers consistently praise its ergonomics, reliability, and fast sight acquisition. Controls feel natural, and it performs well at defensive distances. It's a strong compact 1911 option, though fit and personal preference always factor in.
What does springfield EMP stand for?
EMP stands for Enhanced Micro Pistol. Springfield Armory designed it as a compact pistol that scales down the full-size 1911 platform for easier concealment while retaining classic 1911 ergonomics and controls. It is chambered in 9mm.
Where is Springfield EMP made?
Springfield Armory makes the EMP in Geneseo, Illinois. The pistol is stamped as made in the USA. While some Springfield Armory models involve Brazilian forgings, the EMP itself carries a Geneseo, IL origin marking.
How many rounds does a Springfield EMP hold?
The Springfield EMP is a compact 1911-based pistol designed for concealed carry, available in 9mm. The original EMP holds 9 rounds in the magazine (9+1 total), while the newer 4-inch model holds 10 rounds in the magazine (10+1 total). Capacity varies by model.
What ammo feeds best into a Springfield 1911 EMP?
The EMP feeds reliably with quality brass-cased 9mm ammunition. Federal HST, Speer Gold Dot, and Hornady Critical Defense work well for defense. Standard brass-cased rounds suit practice. The compact frame can be particular, so test several loads to confirm reliable cycling in your specific pistol.
Is the Springfield EMP CA legal?
Springfield Armory offers a California-compliant EMP variant that meets the state's handgun roster requirements. However, firearm laws change frequently, so verify current California DOJ approved handgun roster listings and consult a local dealer before purchasing.
What are the specifications of the Springfield EMP?
Springfield's EMP is a compact 9mm semi-auto pistol with a 10-round magazine, stainless steel slide, and fully supported bull barrel. Frame material varies by model: options include a black anodized aluminum frame or a forged stainless steel frame. It features a reduced grip radius, 3-dot sights, checkered wood grips, and an ambidextrous thumb safety.
