Frequently Asked Questions
Ruger Mark IV Target for sale
Is the Ruger Mark IV good for target shooting?
Yes, the Ruger Mark IV Target excels at target shooting. Its .22 LR caliber, clean trigger, and inherent accuracy make it well-suited for precision range work. Shooters consistently report tight groups. Priced around $570, it comes in 14 variants and is widely available.
Is the Ruger Mark IV a target or hunter?
Ruger makes both. The Mark IV Target has a block-style rear sight and black target front sight for precision shooting. The Mark IV Hunter uses a fast-find V-notch rear sight with a fiber optic front sight for field use. Both are .22 LR semi-autos with comparable barrel lengths.
Is it okay to dry fire a Ruger Mark IV?
Yes, Ruger explicitly permits dry firing the Mark IV. For occasional practice, it's safe without accessories. For frequent dry fire sessions, Ruger recommends using snap caps to protect the firing pin. Always confirm the chamber and magazine are empty before dry firing.
Can I put a red dot on my Ruger Mark IV?
Yes. The Mark IV accepts red dot mounts via aftermarket adapters from companies like OuterImpact. Some models also have factory-drilled receiver rails. Compact reflex sights work best given the pistol's low profile. Confirm your optic's footprint matches your chosen mount before buying.
What ammo is best for Mark IV?
CCI Mini Mags feed and cycle reliably across Mark IV variants. Federal AutoMatch and CCI Standard Velocity are solid alternatives. Most shooters find 40-grain loads cycle cleanly. Run a few hundred rounds through a new pistol before trying lighter ammunition.
Does the Ruger Mark 4 Target have a threaded barrel?
Yes, Ruger does offer Mark IV Target models with threaded barrels. For example, Model 40126 features a threaded bull barrel, and stainless Mark IV Target models are available with 1/2x28 threads for rimfire silencers. Check our marketplace listings for current Mark IV Target threaded barrel options.
What is the best suppressor for a Ruger Mark IV?
Suppressor choice depends on your priorities. The Dead Air Mask ranks highly for sound reduction; the Rugged Oculus 22 offers modularity and easy cleaning. Both work well on Mark IV pistols. Consider your budget, desired length, and maintenance preferences before purchasing, and verify local NFA regulations.
What material is the barrel of the Ruger Mark IV?
Ruger Mark IV barrels are cold hammer-forged stainless steel across variants. The Mark IV 22/45 Tactical, for example, pairs this cold hammer-forged stainless steel barrel with an alloy steel receiver. Check your specific model's specifications to confirm exact construction details.
