Frequently Asked Questions
Ruger Mark IV 22 for sale
Is the Ruger MK IV 22 worth the money?
The Ruger MK IV 22 retails around $440 and delivers solid accuracy, low maintenance, and one-button disassembly—a genuine improvement over earlier Mark models. Ammunition costs stay low. For recreational shooting or rimfire target practice, most owners find it good value for the price.
What is the price of a Ruger Mark IV 22-45?
Ruger Mark IV 22/45 pistols typically sell for around $442, with prices ranging from $325 to $632 depending on the configuration. MSRP runs $449–$759. Ten configurations are available across multiple retailers, varying by barrel length and grip style.
Why is the Ruger Mark IV called 22-45?
The "22/45" designation combines the caliber (.22 LR) with the grip angle, which matches the 1911 pistol's grip angle. This differs from the standard Mark IV's grip angle, giving shooters familiar with 1911-style pistols a more natural feel.
Can you dry fire a Ruger Mark IV 22-45?
Yes, Ruger Mark IV 22/45 pistols can be dry fired. However, Ruger strongly recommends a snap cap for anything more than occasional dry fire practice, as repeated dry firing risks firing pin breakage and chamber dimpling. Always verify the chamber and magazine are empty and point the gun in a safe direction.
What is the best trigger for the Ruger MK IV 22 45?
"Best" depends on your priorities. Popular upgrades include the TandemKross Ultimate Trigger Kit for a crisp, adjustable pull with reduced takeup, and the Victory Trigger for fast resets. Steve Foster's flat trigger also has a strong following. Consider your budget and whether you want adjustability or a simpler drop-in solution.
What is the difference between the Ruger Mark IV and the Lite?
The Mark IV 22/45 Lite uses an aluminum upper with a sleeved barrel, weighing about 25 ounces. Standard and Tactical variants have steel uppers and heavier barrels. Both use polymer frames with 1911-style grip angles. The Lite targets competition and general target shooting, featuring target sights and a top rail for optics.
What grips fit Ruger 22-45?
Ruger 22/45-specific grips from makers like Volquartsen, LOK Grips, and Hogue fit directly using the stock screws. Available materials include G10, laminate, and rubber. Some 1911 grips can be adapted with gunsmithing, but grips labeled specifically for the 22/45 are the simplest option.
What ammo is best for the Ruger Mark IV 22 45?
CCI Mini Mags work well for break-in and general shooting. Federal, Remington, and Blazer 36–40 grain standard velocity rounds are also popular choices. Since individual pistols vary, test several brands to find what cycles reliably in yours.
