Frequently Asked Questions
Mossberg 590 Tactical for sale
What is the price of the Mossberg 590 tactical?
The Mossberg 590 Tactical typically retails between $379 and $589, with an average new price around $561. Seven variants are available across multiple retailers, with prices varying based on barrel length, stock type, and finish.
Will a Mossberg 590 slam fire?
The Mossberg 590 has a disconnector that blocks slam firing in standard form, but it is not an absolute barrier. The disconnector can be modified to make the 590 slam-fire capable. Older designs like the Ithaca M37 slam fire from the factory without any modification required.
Can I shoot slugs out of my Mossberg 590?
Yes, the Mossberg 590 fires slugs. Rifled slugs work reliably through the smooth bore. Sabot slugs may tumble without rifling to stabilize them. Do not use slugs with an extra-full choke installed, as the tight constriction can be dangerous.
Can I put a stock on a Mossberg 590?
Yes, you can install an aftermarket stock on a Mossberg 590. Most stocks designed for the 500/590 platform bolt directly to the receiver using basic hand tools. The Magpul SGA is a common option. Confirm compatibility with your specific 590 variant before purchasing.
Is it okay to dry fire a Mossberg 590?
Dry firing the Mossberg 590 is generally considered safe, and many users report no issues after thousands of dry fires. Mossberg's concern is that repeated dry firing may cause the magazine tube spring to lose tension. Snap caps are an easy precaution if you want extra peace of mind.
How reliable is a Mossberg 590?
The Mossberg 590 is highly reliable. Users regularly report thousands of rounds with minimal malfunctions. Its simple pump-action design resists fouling and abuse. The military adopted it after rigorous testing, and strong parts availability keeps it running long-term.
Does the Mossberg 590 Tactical come in 20 GA?
Yes, the Mossberg 590 Tactical is available in 20 gauge. Mossberg produces a purpose-built 20-gauge version of the 590 Tactical, not just other 590 variants. Our marketplace data shows seven 590 Tactical variants available, typically priced around $557.
