Frequently Asked Questions
45 ACP Pistols for sale
What is the best .45 ACP pistol?
"Best" depends on your needs. Popular choices include 1911s like the Wilson Combat CQB, striker-fired options like the Walther PPQ 45, and compact carry guns like the S&W M&P 45 Shield. Prices typically range $379–$2,299. Test-fire before buying to find what fits your grip and shooting style.
What was George Patton's killing gun?
Patton called his ivory-gripped .357 Magnum Smith & Wesson revolver his "killing gun." He also carried a .45 Long Colt Single Action Army revolver, purchased in 1916, with ivory grips throughout his career. He famously corrected anyone who called the ivory grips "pearl."
Why is 45 ACP called God's caliber?
"God's caliber" is an informal title used by devoted .45 ACP fans. The most commonly cited origin ties directly to John Moses Browning, whom many shooters reverently call "god" — since he designed both the .45 ACP cartridge and the 1911 pistol, making it literally the caliber created by "god."
Can a .45 stop a grizzly bear?
.45 ACP is a popular choice for bear defense and can be effective with premium loads like Buffalo Bore or Underwood ammo. However, for grizzly specifically, many consider it underpowered. Larger options like .44 Magnum or .454 Casull offer more reliable stopping power against grizzlies.
What 45 do Navy SEALs use?
Navy SEALs carry several handguns depending on mission requirements, including the Mk 23, Mk 25, and Mk 27 (Glock 19). The MK 24 Mod 0, a suppressor-ready HK45 Compact in .45 ACP, was selected in 2011 as a replacement for the MK 23 for Naval Special Warfare personnel.
What is the deadliest 45 ACP round?
Lethality depends more on shot placement than ammunition type. Among the deadliest 45 ACP loads, +P hollow points lead ballistic tests. Top picks include Remington Golden Saber +P 185-grain HP and Speer LE Gold Dot +P 200-grain HP. Accuracy with your specific firearm still matters most.
