Frequently Asked Questions
1911 for sale
What's so special about 1911?
The 1911 has over a century of proven reliability in military and civilian use. Its single-action trigger offers a clean, consistent pull, and its ergonomics suit many shooters naturally. The .45 ACP chambering delivers significant stopping power, though modern variants also come in 9mm and other calibers.
Is a 1911 a 45 or 9mm?
The 1911 was originally designed for .45 ACP, but the platform is now produced in multiple calibers including 9mm. Both are common today, with 9mm variants offering higher magazine capacity and lighter recoil while .45 ACP remains the traditional choice.
Is the 1911 known for jamming?
The 1911 can jam, but reliability depends heavily on manufacturer quality, maintenance, and ammunition. Cheaper models jam more frequently. Reputable makers like Wilson Combat and Springfield Armory produce reliable examples. Common causes include worn magazines, poor grip technique, and neglected maintenance.
What 1911 did Chris Kyle carry?
Chris Kyle carried a Springfield Armory TRP Operator during deployments. Springfield later honored him with the Chris Kyle Legend Series TRP, featuring a five-inch match-grade barrel, Tritium sights, and G10 grips.
What is the lifespan of a 1911?
A quality 1911 will fire well over 100,000 rounds with proper maintenance. Springs, extractors, and small parts may need replacement along the way, but the slide and frame can last decades. Many original military examples from World War I and II remain functional today.
Can a 1911 go full auto?
Stock 1911 pistols are semi-automatic only. Full-auto conversion is possible through modification but illegal without proper federal licensing. Unintended full-auto fire can result from worn parts, improper reassembly, or excessively light trigger work—a dangerous malfunction requiring immediate gunsmith attention.
