Frequently Asked Questions
Glock 19 Gen 5 for sale
Is a Glock 19 Gen 5 worth the money?
Value depends on your needs. Glock 19 Gen 5 models typically cost around $627, ranging $529–$825. Owners praise its reliability, smooth trigger, and accuracy. It's a proven defensive pistol, though Gen 4 models are available cheaper if the latest refinements aren't a priority.
Does the Glock 19 Gen 5 have MOS?
Yes, Glock offers the Glock 19 Gen 5 MOS, which features a Modular Optic System for mounting electronic sights. It includes multiple adapter plates for quick optic installation.
What slides fit on Glock 19 Gen 5?
Gen 5 slides are designed specifically for Gen 5 frames. Aftermarket options from manufacturers like Norsso are available, typically priced $269–$509. Gen 4 slides can fit with minor modifications. Gen 3 slides can also fit if you use a Gen 3 recoil spring assembly and a compatible barrel.
Is Glock discontinuing the 19 gen 5?
Glock is discontinuing multiple Gen 4 and Gen 5 models, including Gen 5 variants, after November 30, 2025. They are replacing these with a new V Series. This is a broad discontinuation, not limited to the MOS variant. Multiple models are still available from various retailers, typically around $627.
Can you put a threaded barrel on a Glock 19 Gen 5?
Yes, threaded barrels fit the Glock 19 Gen 5. Aftermarket options from manufacturers like True Precision and Faxon install as drop-in replacements. Gen 3, 4, and 5 barrels share the same locking lugs and locking block, so they are interchangeable. Check local laws, as threaded barrels are regulated in some states.
What is the life expectancy of a Glock 19?
A Glock 19 typically lasts 50,000 to 100,000 rounds or more with proper maintenance. Replace the recoil spring every 5,000 to 10,000 rounds and the firing pin spring periodically. The frame and barrel generally outlast multiple spring replacements, giving the pistol an indefinite service life with basic upkeep.
Is the Glock 19 gen 5 or gen 6 better?
Glock has released the Gen 6 Glock 19. It features an updated trigger, recoil spring system, and improved ergonomics over the Gen 5. Both share the same price point, but the Gen 6 adds factory optics-ready capability and an undercut trigger guard, making it the stronger choice for new buyers.
Does dry firing damage a Glock?
Glock explicitly states that dry firing their pistols causes no damage. The striker and firing pin are engineered to handle it, and many shooters do it regularly for practice. Snap caps are unnecessary but provide extra peace of mind if preferred.
How often should I clean my Glock 19?
Clean your Glock 19 after each range session, monthly if unused, and immediately after exposure to moisture, salt, or dirt. Most shooters clean every 400–500 rounds. Glocks can run 1,000 rounds between cleanings if needed, but regular maintenance prevents corrosion and ensures reliable function.
What magazines fit in a Glock 19 Gen 5?
Glock 19 Gen 5 accepts its own 15-round 9mm magazines plus Glock 17 and Glock 34 Gen 5 mags. Gen 5 magazines are not compatible with Gen 4 or earlier frames. Glock 26 Gen 5 magazines also fit but hold only 10 rounds.
What's special about Glock 19 Gen 5 mags?
Gen 5 magazines feature an orange follower for easier round-count visibility and are compatible with most earlier Glock 19 generations, though exceptions exist. Standard capacity is 15 rounds flush-fit. The polymer bodies include steel springs and reinforcing inserts. Extended magazines and plus-two baseplates are also compatible with Gen 5 frames.
What is special about the Gen 5 frame?
Gen 5 frames feature a flatter front strap to accommodate different hand sizes, reversible enlarged magazine catches for ambidextrous use, two interchangeable backstraps to adjust grip circumference, and aggressive texturing that improves traction without being abrasive.
What is the best upgrade for the Glock 19 Gen 5?
"Best" depends on your use. Night sights address the factory's weakest point for low-light shooting. A Ghost trigger connector improves the break. Extended controls and a quality holster round out practical upgrades. Start with sights, then customize based on your carry or training needs.
What is the best holster for a Glock 19 Gen 5?
"Best" depends on your carry method. The Safariland Incog X excels for concealment. Alien Gear offers precision-molded options supporting optics and lights. Bravo Concealment specializes in Gen 5 MOS rigs. Consider retention level, comfort, and light or optic compatibility for your specific needs.
Is a Glock 19 gen 5 good for concealed carry?
Yes. Its compact frame, 15-round capacity, and striker-fired reliability make it well-suited for concealed carry. The Gen 5 adds ambidextrous slide releases, a flared magwell, and a refined barrel. It runs reliably across a wide range of ammunition and is widely available for around $550–$650.
