Frequently Asked Questions
Glock 17 Gen 5 MOS for sale
Is the Glock 17 Gen 5 Mos discontinued?
Yes, the Glock 17 Gen 5 MOS has been discontinued, replaced by the Glock 47. However, the standard non-MOS Glock 17 Gen 5 remains in production. Used MOS units and remaining retailer inventory are still available on the secondary market.
What are the common problems with Glock 17 Mos?
Common issues with the Glock 17 MOS include feeding failures with certain ammunition, slide cycling problems when heavier optics are mounted, and occasional trigger reset concerns. Most stem from ammunition incompatibility or recoil spring weight mismatches rather than inherent design flaws.
Did Glock make a Gen 5 17 Mos?
Yes, Glock makes a Gen 5 Glock 17 MOS. It features a modular optic system for mounting red dot sights, the Glock Marksman Barrel, nDLC finish, and ambidextrous slide stop. It remains an active product, currently listed on Glock's official product page and available for purchase.
Is the Glock 17 gen 5 mos worth buying?
Worth depends on your needs. The G17 Gen5 MOS is a current, actively produced optic-ready full-size 9mm that is reliable and accurate with solid ergonomics. Typically around $638, most listings $550-$751. If you want a capable optics-ready pistol, it remains a strong choice.
What is the lifespan of a Glock 17 MOS?
Glock 17 MOS pistols typically last 200,000 to 300,000 rounds with proper maintenance. Frame and slide failures are rare at normal shooting volumes. Glock warrants pistols against defects for one year. Most shooters will never wear one out in their lifetime.
What is the best ammo for a Glock 17 Gen 5?
Your Glock 17 Gen 5 fires 9mm ammunition. For practice, 115gr or 124gr FMJ rounds work well. For defense, hollow-point loads from Federal, Speer, or Hornady are solid choices. The Gen 5 handles most factory 9mm reliably, though 124gr is a common break-in recommendation.
Does the Glock 17 Gen 5 have a threaded barrel?
No. Standard Glock 17 Gen 5 models ship with unthreaded barrels. Aftermarket threaded barrels from manufacturers like Griffin Armament and Lone Wolf are available as drop-in replacements, typically featuring 1/2x28 threading for suppressors or compensators.
