Excellent home defense24%
Perfect for home defense or backpacking in the woods/mountains.
Quality build & finish21%
Well built and feels nice. I really like that it has removable choke tubes.
Lightweight and compact16%
something fairly short and light weight for the wife and I for home protection
Common concerns
Feeding/jamming issues12%
Works great if you only load 2 shells. Any more and it will double feed and jam.
Plastic parts durability7%
The magazine throat is made of 1mm thick plastic and broke on me the first time I took it hunting.
Poor finish quality6%
The paint/finish is absolutely horrendous and is cheap as it scratches and fades quite easily
Missing accessories/defects5%
Gun came in decent condition, only gripe was that it is missing some of the accessories like the heat shield.
Frequently Asked Questions
Winchester SXP for sale
What does SXP mean on a Winchester shotgun?
SXP stands for Super X Pump. It is Winchester's pump-action shotgun that uses recoil-assisted cycling to speed up the slide stroke, allowing faster follow-up shots than conventional pumps. Introduced in 2009 as a successor to the Model 1300, it is used for hunting, sport shooting, and home defense.
Why does my Winchester SXP only hold 2 rounds?
Your SXP likely has a magazine plug installed, limiting capacity to three rounds total (one in chamber, two in magazine) for hunting compliance. Remove the plug if legal in your area. If the problem persists, the shell stop or magazine follower may be defective. Consult a gunsmith.
What hits harder, 12 or 20 gauge?
Twelve gauge hits harder. Its larger bore delivers heavier shot loads and more downrange energy than 20 gauge. The 20 gauge produces less recoil and is lighter to carry, but generates less power. Your choice depends on the game you're hunting and how much recoil you can handle.
How good is the Winchester SXP?
The Winchester SXP is a reliable, well-regarded pump-action shotgun priced around $363. Users praise its smooth cycling, manageable recoil, and easy maintenance. It handles hunting, sport shooting, and home defense competently. Most reviewers suggest upgrading chokes for tighter patterns but consider it an excellent value overall.
