Frequently Asked Questions
Ruger Redhawk 44 for sale
What does a Ruger Redhawk cost?
Ruger Redhawk revolvers typically cost around $1,100. Most listings fall between $878 and $1,300, depending on caliber, barrel length, and condition. The MSRP for standard models like the .357 Magnum reaches $1,449, with used examples available from roughly $600–$900 and specialty variants commanding higher prices.
Is the Ruger Redhawk a good gun?
The Ruger Redhawk is a well-regarded double-action revolver known for durability and availability in powerful calibers like .44 Magnum and .45 Colt. The factory trigger often benefits from a gunsmith's attention. It suits hunting and field carry well, though its weight makes it less ideal for concealed carry.
What are the common Ruger Redhawk problems?
Redhawk owners report occasional light strikes and cylinder binding. Some guns develop barrel-threading issues causing restrictions. The factory trigger can feel rough and benefit from professional smoothing. Cast lead ammunition may cause fouling problems in some cylinders. Overall reliability remains solid with proper maintenance.
What is the difference between a Ruger Redhawk and a Super Redhawk?
The Super Redhawk has an extended frame that integrates with the barrel, allowing easier scope mounting, and uses a GP-100 style grip frame. The standard Redhawk has a traditional grip frame and requires same-height scope rings. Both are double/single-action revolvers sharing the same basic frame size.
What makes the Ruger Super Redhawk .44 special?
Super Redhawk models chamber .44 Magnum but also accept shorter .44 Special cartridges in the same cylinder. Built on an enlarged GP-100 frame with stainless steel construction, triple-locking cylinder, cold hammer-forged barrel, integral scope mounts, and Hogue Tamer grips for hunting use.
What holster for Ruger Super Redhawk?
Multiple manufacturers make Super Redhawk holsters. Safariland, Bianchi, Triple K, and Craft Holsters offer revolver-specific models. Match the holster to your barrel length (7.5" or 9.5" are common). OWB belt holsters work well, but low-profile IWB and hybrid leather-backed Kydex designs are also recommended for comfort and reduced printing.
Can you dry fire a Ruger Redhawk?
Ruger Redhawk revolvers can be dry fired in moderation for basic function checks. The Ruger manual permits this, but extended dry firing sessions are not recommended. Use snap caps during prolonged practice to reduce wear and potential breakage over time.
What is the most accurate 44 Magnum revolver?
Accuracy depends on shooter skill and load selection. The Ruger Super Redhawk and Smith & Wesson Model 29 consistently deliver excellent precision. Longer barrels improve sight radius and velocity. Trigger control and ammunition quality matter most. The Super Redhawk's adjustable sights and robust frame make it a top choice.
