The Ruger American Rimfire is well-regarded for its accuracy, smooth bolt operation, and reliable feeding. The trigger is notably good for the price. It comes in multiple configurations and is widely available from around $424, making it a strong value in the rimfire category.
What is the price of the Ruger American 22LR?

Does the Ruger American 22 have a threaded barrel?
Yes, Ruger offers threaded barrel models in the American Rimfire line chambered in .22 LR, .22 Magnum, and .17 HMR. They feature 18-inch cold hammer-forged barrels with 1/2"-28 threads and include a thread protector. Full-size and compact versions are available.
What are the common problems with the Ruger American Rimfire?
User reports mention stiff initial bolt operation, and bolt locking that may be unsuitable for some users. Magazine problems are a recurring complaint: mags don't work well, don't last long, and are expensive to replace. Chamber fouling requires frequent cleaning. Stock screw torque affects accuracy. These issues go beyond minor inconveniences.
Is the Ruger American discontinued?
No, the Ruger American Rimfire is not discontinued.
Can you swap barrels on a Ruger American?
Yes, you can swap barrels on a Ruger American. It uses a factory barrel nut system compatible with aftermarket pre-fit barrels cut to Ruger's thread and shank specifications. Both Generation 1 and Generation 2 actions accept these barrels. A barrel wrench and headspace gauges are needed for installation.
What is the difference between the Ruger American gen 1 and gen 2?
Gen 2 updates include a redesigned molded grip replacing angular grooves, improved forend ergonomics, bolt and receiver milling changes, better stock quality, and a refined trigger. The action feels smoother. Both generations are mechanically similar, but parts do not fully interchange — some components require modification to fit between generations.
