What customers like
Accurate & Reliable42%
Shoots great out of the box. Add a spring kit and it's ready for competition.
Quality & Craftsmanship38%
Fit and finish is excellent. This is by far the most durable single action revolver ever made.
Fast Shipping & Service24%
Shipping was fast. No problem with transaction. Best price on this blackhawk 45 colt.
Comfortable & Ergonomic18%
Fits my hand very well and shoots amazingly close.
Versatile Caliber Options16%
The caliber versatility is appealing. I have an SP-101 .22 but this is my first Ruger single action handgun.
Common concerns
Stiff Mainspring8%
The main spring requires a lot of strength to pull the hammer back, this causes a problem with the grip.
Loading Gate Issues6%
The loading gate is super stiff to open. Such a bummer to pay a lot for a gun and you get something screwed up.
Quality Control Issues5%
The sights of the Blackhawk were way off. Quality control at Ruger seems to be slipping these days.
Grip Design Concerns5%
Poor design handle....could have been better ergonomically designed to fit the hand better
Frequently Asked Questions
Ruger 45 Colt Revolver for sale
Does Ruger make a 45 Colt revolver?
Yes. Ruger makes several .45 Colt revolvers, including the New Model Blackhawk Convertible (single-action, 6-round cylinder, with interchangeable .45 ACP cylinder), the Vaquero, and the Redhawk. Pricing varies by model, with the Blackhawk available around $719.99 and the Vaquero carrying an MSRP of $1099.00 at some retailers.
What is the best 45 Colt revolver?
"Best" depends on your needs. For cowboy action shooting, single-action revolvers like the Ruger Blackhawk or Vaquero are top choices. For hunting or defense, double-action options offer advantages. Compare specs and intended use before deciding.
What is a Ruger 45 Blackhawk worth?
Ruger Blackhawk revolvers in .45 Colt vary widely used, typically ranging from around $200–$500 depending on condition, with some examples selling higher and rarer versions exceeding $2,000. New models carry an MSRP of roughly $539–$720. The convertible model with a .45 ACP cylinder generally commands a slight premium.
Why is .45 Colt so expensive?
.45 Colt is a low-volume cartridge compared to mainstream calibers like 9mm or .45 ACP. Manufacturers produce smaller runs, raising per-unit costs. Its primary buyers—cowboy action shooters and revolver enthusiasts—form a niche market that can't drive prices down through scale.
How old is the Ruger Blackhawk?
Ruger introduced the Blackhawk in 1955, making it nearly 70 years old. The original design featured a flat-top frame and adjustable sights. Ruger still produces it today in multiple calibers and configurations, including convertible models that accept two different cartridges.
Is the Ruger Vaquero discontinued?
No, the Ruger Vaquero remains in production. Some specific variants see limited runs and sell out quickly, but the standard model line continues.
What makes a Ruger a bisley?
A Ruger Bisley features a distinctive grip frame, lowered hammer spur, curved trigger, and rounded trigger guard. These design elements reduce grip shift during recoil and make cocking easier without loosening your grip. Ruger introduced the Blackhawk Bisley in 1984 and has maintained the line since.
Is 45LC more powerful than 45 ACP?
Yes, generally. Standard .45 LC loads produce around 400 ft-lbs of energy versus .45 ACP's 350 ft-lbs. The .45 LC actually operates at lower maximum pressure (14,000 psi) than .45 ACP, yet accommodates over 50% more powder. With heavy revolver loads, .45 LC pulls ahead significantly.
