Frequently Asked Questions
Ruger 22 45 for sale
Is a Ruger 22-45 a good gun?
The Ruger 22/45 is well-regarded for target shooting, competition, and training. It offers 1911-style ergonomics with minimal recoil and low ammunition costs. Reliability is strong and maintenance is straightforward. Prices typically run around $559, making it a practical choice for recreational and competitive shooters.
Why is Ruger Mark 4 called 22-45?
The "22" denotes .22 LR caliber, while "45" references the grip angle borrowed from the 1911 pistol. This lets shooters train affordably on rimfire while maintaining the same hand position and feel as a full-size 1911.
What year did the Ruger 22-45 come out?
Ruger introduced the 22/45 in 1992. The model was designed to give shooters the same grip angle as a 1911 pistol while chambering affordable .22 LR ammunition. It went through multiple generations, including the Mark II, Mark III, and Mark IV variants.
Can you dry fire a Ruger Mark IV 22-45?
Yes, you can dry fire the Mark IV 22/45. Ruger's manual recommends using snap caps for extended dry fire sessions. Always verify the chamber and magazine are empty and point the pistol in a safe direction before doing so.
What is the barrel length of a 22 45 Lite?
The Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Lite has a 4.4-inch threaded barrel (1/2"-28 threads) with a thread protector. Overall length is 8.4 inches.
Is the 22 45 Lite accurate?
Yes, the 22/45 Lite is accurate for a rimfire pistol. Testing shows average groups around 1.87 inches at 25 yards, aided by a crisp, light trigger. It's designed for target shooting and competition, making it a reliable choice for range use.
What is the price of a Ruger 22-45 tactical?
The Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Tactical has an MSRP of around $689. Street prices average approximately $419.89 new and $388.24 used, with some listings as low as $375.99.
What makes the Ruger 22-45 tactical unique?
Ruger's 22/45 Tactical combines a 1911-style grip frame with a threaded barrel, an optics rail designed for mounting a red dot sight, and adjustable iron sights. One-button takedown allows tool-free field-stripping. Its .22 LR chambering suits target shooting, competition, and training at low ammunition cost.
How accurate is the Ruger 22-45?
The Ruger 22/45 is quite accurate for a rimfire pistol. Its light trigger and stable receiver help produce tight groups at 25 yards with quality ammunition. Most shooters find it suitable for target shooting and competition, and adding a red dot sight improves precision further.
How many rounds does a Ruger 22-45 hold?
The Ruger 22/45 feeds from a 10-round magazine, giving a standard capacity of 10+1 rounds with one chambered.
Do Ruger 22-45 use 1911 grips?
Standard 1911 grips won't fit the 22/45. The 22/45 grip frame has an angled cutout for the bolt stop that 1911 grips lack. Some shooters modify them to fit, but purpose-made 22/45 grips are the correct choice.
What is the price of a Ruger Mark IV 22-45?
Ruger Mark IV 22/45 pistols typically cost around $559, with most variants ranging from $332 to $1,039 depending on configuration, barrel length, and finish.
What is the difference between a Ruger mark 3 and 4?
Mark IV's main advantage is tool-free takedown—far simpler than Mark III's complex disassembly. The Mark IV also features a one-button disassembly system, an improved grip frame, and a redesigned magazine release. Both fire .22 LR and are accurate, but the Mark IV is significantly easier to clean and maintain.
Is the Ruger Mark IV 22 45 reliable?
Yes, the Mark IV 22/45 is generally reliable. It feeds and fires .22 LR consistently, and Ruger's rimfire pistols have a strong track record. Like all rimfire pistols, performance can vary with ammunition quality, but most users report few malfunctions during extended range use.
What grips fit Ruger 22-45?
Grips made specifically for the Ruger 22/45 fit directly. Hogue monogrips and G10 options are commonly available. Standard 1911 grips do not fit without modification, but a skilled gunsmith can make them work. The Mark III and Mark IV 22/45 variants have different frame profiles, so confirm compatibility before buying.
