Frequently Asked Questions
Remington 700 .243 WIN for sale
Is the Remington 700 chambered in 243?
Yes, Remington chambers the 700 in .243 Winchester across multiple variants including the ADL, BDL, and CDL models.
Which Remington 700 model is considered the best?
"Best" depends on your needs. The CDL suits hunting with its premium wood stock. The Long Range HS excels at distance shooting. The BDL offers solid all-around performance. All share the reliable bolt action introduced in 1962.
How can I tell how old my Remington 700 is?
Look on the left side of the barrel near the receiver for a two-letter date code stamped just ahead of the recoil lug. The first letter indicates the month, the second the year of manufacture. Remington's date code chart is widely available online and decodes both pre- and post-1977 rifles.
Which Remington 700 has a threaded barrel?
Two Remington 700 variants come factory-threaded: the 700 SPS Tactical AAC-SD, chambered in .308 Win or .300 Blackout with a 20" heavy barrel threaded 5/8-24, and the distinct Model 700 SPS Tactical Threaded, available with 16", 20", or 22" barrel options. Other standard 700 variants require aftermarket threading by a gunsmith.
What are the specifications of the Remington 700 243?
The Remington 700 in .243 Winchester is a bolt-action rifle with a 4+1 magazine capacity and 13.38-inch length of pull. Barrel length varies by variant: the ADL has a 24-inch barrel, the BDL a 22-inch, and the SPS a 20-inch. Pricing starts around $726, with approximately 18 variants available.
What is the best barrel length for a 243 Winchester?
Barrel length depends on your use. For deer hunting, 22-24 inches balances velocity and handling. Varmint work suits 24 inches. Shorter 20-inch barrels work for brush hunting with acceptable velocity loss. Diminishing returns occur beyond 24 inches for .243 Winchester.
How long is a Remington Model 700 Youth Model 243?
Remington 700 Youth Model overall lengths vary by variant. The LH Youth model measures approximately 39.62 inches, while other compact versions differ. The 20-inch barrel and 12.375-inch length of pull are common features sized for smaller shooters, but confirm the specific variant's specs before purchasing.
What is the best twist rate for a 243 win?
Most factory .243 Winchester rifles use a 1:10 twist, which stabilizes bullets from 55 to 100 grains. A 1:8 twist handles heavier bullets above 100 grains better. Choose based on your intended bullet weight range.
What Remington 700 has a bull barrel?
The Remington 700 Long Range Target features a heavy 5R target barrel most closely matching a bull barrel profile. The 700 SPS Varmint has a heavy contour barrel, and the 700 Varmint SF and 700 Sendero SF II also feature heavy barrel profiles suited for precision and varmint shooting.
How much is a Model 700 BDL worth?
A Model 700 BDL currently averages around $1,055 new and $885 used, with a 12-month average near $1,130 new and $926 used. Prices range from approximately $600 to over $2,000 depending on caliber, barrel length, and condition.
What does BDL mean on a Remington 700?
BDL stands for "Better Deluxe" on Remington 700 rifles. It designates a trim level featuring a hinged floorplate magazine and upgraded stock compared to the ADL model, which uses a blind magazine with no floorplate.
What are the common problems with the Remington 700 BDL?
Documented issues include defective triggers that can fire without trigger pull, spent casings sticking in the chamber, and extractor wear or failure. Remington issued a major recall addressing the trigger defect. Some users report unintended discharge when disengaging the safety. Have any concerns addressed by a qualified gunsmith.
