Frequently Asked Questions
Kel-Tec KSG for sale
How much does a Keltec KSG cost?
KSG 12-gauge models typically range from $400 to $900 on the used/retail market, with current average new prices around $696. MSRP runs $900–$1,260 depending on variant. Kel-Tec also offers the KSG410 (.410 bore) at $499.99 MSRP.
Is Keltec KSG a good gun?
The KSG's bullpup design makes it compact and maneuverable, and dual magazine tubes allow switching between ammunition types. However, it has a reputation for feeding issues and requires deliberate pump strokes to function reliably. It's best suited for experienced shooters who maintain it carefully.
Is the KSG shotgun legal?
Federal law permits the KSG. Because it uses non-detachable tube magazines, standard magazine-capacity restrictions on detachable magazines do not automatically ban it. California-legal versions are sold. Laws vary by state and locality, so verify your local regulations before purchasing.
What makes the KelTec KSG unique?
The KSG uses a bullpup layout with two parallel magazine tubes, each holding 7 rounds of 12-gauge, for 14 rounds total. A selector switch lets you alternate between tubes. Spent shells eject downward, and controls are fully ambidextrous.
Can you slamfire a KSG?
No. The KSG requires a deliberate, complete pump stroke to cycle and fire each round. Slamfiring—holding the trigger while rapidly working the pump—is not possible due to its mechanical design.
Can you shoot slugs through a KSG?
Yes, you can fire slugs through a KSG. It has a smoothbore barrel, so standard Foster-style slugs work fine. Sabot slugs designed for smoothbore barrels also perform well. Avoid sabot slugs marked for rifled barrels only, as they may not perform safely or accurately in a smoothbore.
How many bullets does a KSG hold?
The KSG holds 6 rounds per tube with standard 2.75-inch 12-gauge shells, for 12+1 total with one in the chamber. A selector lever lets you switch between the two parallel tubes. Using shorter shells increases capacity to 7 per tube.
Can you hunt with a KSG?
Yes, you can hunt with a KSG. It fires 12-gauge shells suitable for deer, upland birds, and small game. Many states limit magazine capacity for hunting, so you may need a plug to comply with local regulations.
