Frequently Asked Questions
Colt Series 70 1911 for sale
What is a 70 series Colt?
Colt Series 70 is a full-size 1911 semi-automatic pistol chambered in .45 ACP or 9mm. Originally introduced in 1970 and still in production, it features a classic Government profile suited for competition, defense, and range use.
Is a series 70 1911 drop safe?
Series 70 1911s lack a firing pin safety, so a hard muzzle-down drop can potentially cause discharge. An extra-power firing pin spring reduces this risk considerably. Series 80 models include a mechanical firing pin block, making them safer for carry if drop safety is a primary concern.
How much is a Series 70 Colt 1911 worth?
Series 70 Colt 1911s average $1,241.62 new and $1,111.44 used, with retail listings typically ranging from around $879.99 to $999.00. The median price across current listings is around $1,000.
What is the difference between the 1911 government model series 80 and 70?
Series 70 uses a collet barrel bushing and lacks a firing pin safety, giving a cleaner trigger pull. Series 80 added a firing pin block safety for drop protection and uses a standard barrel bushing. Competitors often prefer Series 70; Series 80 is favored for carry due to its added safety.
When did the series 70 1911 come out?
Colt introduced the Series 70 in the early 1970s. It featured a collet barrel bushing designed to improve accuracy and was aimed at the civilian market.
What calibers were offered in Model 70?
The Colt Series 70 pistol was offered in .45 ACP and 9mm.
