Frequently Asked Questions
Carl Gustaf 84mm Ammunition for Sale
What kind of rounds does the Carl-Gustaf use?
The Carl-Gustaf fires 84mm rounds including anti-tank, high-explosive, illumination, smoke, and anti-personnel types. Later models also accept guided munitions. The system's versatility across round types is a primary reason it remains in widespread military service.
How much does a Carl-Gustaf round cost?
A Carl-Gustaf round typically costs around $600–$2,500 depending on the type. Standard HEAT rounds run roughly $500–$1,000, while advanced guided or thermobaric rounds can exceed $2,000. Training rounds are cheaper, often under $100. Prices vary by supplier and contract terms.
What are the advantages of using 84mm RL ammunition?
84mm RL ammunition supports anti-armor, illumination, smoke screening, and direct fire missions from a single launcher. Its variety of rounds lets infantry engage diverse targets without carrying additional weapons, while the system remains lightweight and reliable enough for dismounted operations.
How many times can you fire a Carl-Gustaf?
The Carl-Gustaf is a reusable, breech-loading system with no inherent firing limit. Military guidance restricts sustained fire for operator safety; some forces limit use to six rounds per 24-hour period. The US Army's 75th Ranger Regiment also imposes a 100-round lifetime limit per soldier to reduce overpressure health risks.
What is the range of 84mm rl all ammo?
The 84mm Carl-Gustaf has varying ranges by ammunition type: HEAT rounds are effective to 500–700m against armor, anti-personnel rounds to 1,000m, and extended-range rounds like ALCOTAN to 1,000m. Smoke rounds reach approximately 1,300m. Illumination round range is not confirmed in current sources.
How much does a 84mm round weigh?
84mm rounds for the Carl-Gustaf vary by type, ranging from approximately 2.7 kg for lighter rounds like the ADM 401 and HE 448 to around 4.8 kg for heavier variants. The specific weight depends on the round's purpose—anti-armor, high-explosive, smoke, or illumination.
Is the Carl Gustaf still in production?
Yes, Saab continues producing the Carl-Gustaf in multiple variants, including the M2, M3, M3A1, and M4. Recent orders from countries such as Lithuania confirm active manufacturing remains ongoing.
Does the US military use the Carl-Gustaf?
Yes. The U.S. military has used the Carl-Gustaf (designated MAAWS) since 1990. The Army, Marine Corps, Special Operations Command, and Air Force all field it. Saab has received multiple U.S. orders for the system, confirming continued adoption across several service branches.
