Hornady designed the SST (Super Shock Tip) Bullet in response to customer demand for a polymer tipped hunting bullet that would hold together at higher impact velocities. It utilizes a traditional “cup and core” design with a gilding metal jacket and 3% Antinomy lead core. The jacket is tapered and aids in expansion at reduced velocities, yet controls expansion at higher velocities. Upon impact the polymer tip is forced back into the lead core like a wedge, while the interlock ring works to keep the jacket and core together for increased weight retention. This design results in weight reduction in the form of shards from the nose of the bullet, creating a dramatic wound channel that leads to immediate incapacitation and instant, humane kills. In addition, a secant ogive profile and a sleek aerodynamic ensures the SST bullets offer the same level of accuracy that all Hornady bullets and ammunition is known for.
Features of the SST Bullets:
- Holds together at higher impact velocities
- Tapered jacket aids in expansion at reduced velocities, yet controls expansion at higher velocities
- Creates dramatic wound channels for immediate incapacitation and instant, humane kills
